need some help re moving to France, working in Geneva and not speaking French

Hello!!!

My family and I are considering a move to France around the Gex area, my hubby is considering a new job in Cern. I currently work in recruitment and none of our family speak French or Swiss.

Has anyone been in a similar situation where you have moved here and not spoke the language and managed to find similar employment as a recruitment consultant?

Look forward to finding out all about what it might be like living out there!

Mimi

Do you have young children? Now it is very usual for people who do not speak the local language to move here, especially at Cern- but finding a job as a recruitment agent without speaking French will be almost impossible. If you have young children, 1 parent will have to be avaialble to support them in adapting and settling in.

Curious why you are looking at the french side vs in Switzerland itself?

You will find it harder in France without French then you will across the border. At least my 2 cents. I also can't see doing your current line of work without learning French or German

Definitely agree that on the French side, not speaking French is more of a handicap than on the Swiss side. Suggest whatever you choose that one of the first things you do is invest time in learning French. It will make things infinitely easier and allow you to integrate. Plenty of places offer courses, including personal one-on-one coaching. If you prefer classes, Migros has been doing this for years.

Three aspects. (1)There is NO "Swiss" language. People speak, depending on region, German or French or Italian or Romansh. (2) Your husband can work in CERN without French, but to live in the Geneva area without French is a bit uncomfortable (3) French can be LEARNT
