Help finding replacement Bosch Glass Stove top

Hi,
I have a student friend who accidentally broke the 'glass' over her stove, help-finding-replacement-bosch-glass-stove-top-image.jpgBosch Logixx PKF375V14E Electric Hob. I have enclosed a photo.
Anyone, that might be able to suggest how to find a replacement glass, I would be quite grateful .Click image for larger version

Re: Help finding replacement Bosch Glass Stove top

Broken oven
In this thread many useful solutions were given. tell her to report this to her landlord asap. I hope for her sake that she has insurance coverage.

you can search for spare parts here: http://www.bosch-home.com/ch/de/store/spareparts/search
to find your e number that you need to enter to find the spare part corresponding to the stove (it's on the "Typenschild") follow these steps: click on Der Weg zum Typenschild - Kochen - Kochfelder and you will see which diagram matches her stove. Then enter the number found on her stove in the e number field and you should be able to find your spare part.
If your friend has the stove's manual the stove's e number might be on it though.

Thanks
No insurance, so we are looking to replace it. Landlord shot out a replacement price of 800chf. It is a very, very old stove.
Really hoping to just replace glass.
Could not find similiar product on the site provided.
Almost seems that you could buy a whole two burner unit for 800 CHF !

What do you mean by "shot out"? Is it the maximum he'd be willing to pay?
If the stove is older than its lifespan (15 years), normal replacement price according to renter's assoc. is 1.3k. Know that you have the right to take your landlord to the renter's arbitration office (Schlichtungsstelle) if he refuses to pay for the replacement of this stove of 15+ years which was broken by accident (there is no requirement to replace a functioning stove wich is older than 15 years though).
Shame you don't have insurance , they'd be incredibly useful if the stove hasn't reached the age of 15 years yet.

that's not OP's problem. If OP's landlord is deemed responsible to pay, he'll have to pay irrespective of insurance availability. Same goes for OP. Hence - as I stated above - OP should find out the exact age of the stove to evaluate if he should head to the renter's association or not. And OP should ask for everything the landlord wants to say regarding the stove to come in writing - that way it's easier to go through an arbitration procedure, rather than engaging in a he-said-she-said battle.

Re: Help finding replacement Bosch Glass Stove top

These ceramic cooking stove tops are not easily repairable. The metal surrounds are pressed into shape, and I don't believe they allow the glass to be easily removed and replaced.

That looks like a very old stove. You have to assume that the hole in the worktop will need some work to get the replacement to fit. Is the OP capable of that? The complete wooden worktop might need replacing if the hole is too big for the replacement.

I think the OP should contact Dipl Ing Fust for a quotation on parts and labour, and to find out how old the stove is.

Re: Help finding replacement Bosch Glass Stove top

The age of the stove might also have something to do with why it broke - we don't know "how" it broke (I'm guessing something fell on it that wasn't meant to...).

If it is 15+ yrs old the bonds in the glass will have been expanding and contracting a fair number of times with each heating/cooling and a weak spot may have developed. Ordinarily one wouldn't expect a glass stove top to break even after 30 years of use but that doesn't mean it can't happen.

(When OH and I were living in ETH housing 20+ years ago I was mortified one morning when my jar of face cream fell into the sink and I found myself with a huge chunk of ceramic on my foot. The fear of having broken the sink was far worse than my swollen toes...but the helpful Hausmeister informed us the sink was "x" years old and up for replacement anyway)

I think OP should have the landlord contact Fust because if he contacts Fust directly, Fust might bill him for anything done, whereas if the landlord got the quotation sorted he'll have to bill OP for it and OP will have the possibility to appeal the bill in an arbitration procedure.

Always, if you want something done that costs more than "Kleinreparatur" (CHF 150-200) which you might not be responsible to pay for, inform the landlord and have him do all the quote-searching etc. - then if he feels he can bill you and you think that's unjustified you can go to the arbitration office to get things sorted.
Whereas if a company gets called by the tenant for a job, they'll be going after the tenant instead of the landlord for the bill. Tenant will have to pay and then go after the landlord to get his money back - much more hassle.

You are correct, but the OP is trying to avoid the Fr 800,-- the landlord quoted. Maybe when Fust quotes him Fr 1'200 he will see that the landlord's offer is reasonable, but he can still try and wriggle out of paying the full amount due to the extreme age of the ceramic hob.

I am worried the new hob will be too small for the old hole in the worktop, requiring a new work surface, with a smaller hole.

If you know the model number try searching for it at www.nettoshop.ch. They might have it. You'd need someone to install it though as they only sell items.

For 800 the landlord can buy a new cooker and you pay him a percentage of the new price as he will be getting a fully new item which is to his benefit. Dont let the A Hole walk over you!

Yes, but if you can pick up the glass top for say 200, altogether that's less the 800 the landlord's quoting. I don't think the OP will manage to better the landlord's price myself, but it never hurts to check. Also check with your local electricity supplier sales staff. When I was recently looking to replace my oven/hob Groupe E came in at almost the same price as buying the items from NETTO and then having them installed. I went with Groupe E in the end, because none of the electricians I e-mailed even had the courtesy to e-mail back and say they weren't interested in doing the job. Groupe E on the other hand replied within a couple of hours and provided a detailed quote within 24.
