Is it normal for Adults to recieve chocolate rabbits in Switzerland?

I am an Au-Pair and have recieved one from the family, one from their Grandparents and one from a lady at my choir. In England I only recieve one easter egg every year from my parents, and adults don't really get anything...
I feel a little bad because I have only given out 2 bunnys to the kids I look after and have recieved from people that I haven't been able to give back to!

Also, the kids recieve TOYS at Easter- is this strange to other people? It's like a second Christmas here...

No it is completely unusual, who would have thought that people give chocolate rabbits to adults at Easter? Yours must be a unique situation in Switzerland, but good that you made a thread to help you work this out.

I'm still hopeful that I'll get at least one on Sunday ..... if I don't, then I'll have to steal from my children - they get so many, they don't usually notice.

I received chocolate rabbits (and a frog!) for Easter and I have been an adult for a looooong time.

Stop worrying and enjoy!

No, why would it? Bunnies are the Easter symbol aside from eggs and the religious things. It would be tragic that only kids get to eat them. Unfortunately, the horrifyingly sweet kinder eggs are on display during the days leading up to Easter, I think it's a pity that kids are geared towards that "chocolate" when there are so many better-tasting and less boring varieties.

As for the toys - there was an article in 20min yesterday about Easter and toys instead of chocs and eggs for the kids. I think it's sad that the tradition is changing, bad enough that Christmas turned into a huge commercialized pile of plastic rather than gifts under a tree with candles and baubles after a scrumptious dinner/lunch.

Also, the Easter hunt gets more interesting if one isn't only hunting eggs, but also bunnies.

I won't be surprised if shops start displaying the Mother's Day stuff the Tuesday after Easter...!!!!! and then the grill stuff from Mother's day until Aug 1st, then halloween stuff until Oct 31, then Christmas stuff until Dec 24, then Fasnacht/valentines stuff until February, then Easter stuff until Easter...

The chocolate rabbit that my wife got from her boss was nicer than the one that I got from my boss

Yes, it's very normal and you are expected to share (I'll pm you my addy)

Anyways. I am not so into chocolate, but it is fun. What's not fun is being whipped on Easter Monday. I don't know why I am signing up again for this barbaric pagan schtick.

Re: Is it normal for Adults to recieve chocolate rabbits in Switzerland?

When you say rabbit...?

I think they're just indicating that they see you as part of the family. If you've bought the chilren something, that's fine; I wouldn't buy the adults anything. The bunnies are essentially gifts from the children, not the adults.

It sounds like your employers are lovely (assuming they don't normally beat you )

Re: Is it normal for Adults to recieve chocolate rabbits in Switzerland?

Only my kids have received some chocolates so far. I am trying to be a good mom and teach them the principals of sharing or as some would call it taxing. if they want to eat one they have to give one to mommy. It's only fair and prepares them for the rules in the real world.
