Interesting thread...

I'm a born genevan and I like my town and its history, but I'd be happy to move in another town small town with a nice countryside (for the moment, I start to get a lot of interest about Yverdon).

Since my childhood, Geneva's changed a lot and has become dirty, very dirty.
I even don't feel safe when I have to go out at night (which is very subjective I know)
Younger, I used to love to come in the city center for a movie or for meeting some friends.

It's also a town where things take a very very long time to change... I don't
know if it's due to it's calvinist spirit, which is, I believe, still strong in the city.

I see also a change in the mentality about foreigners, some people complaining about them being everywhere.

well well ---- dirty -- no longer save -- Calvinist/Zwinglianisch -- Change things (Nieder mit den Alpen -- Freier Blick aufs Mittelmeer) ?? in short, you are getting OLD

For the time being, Geneva should get MORE tramlines -- far more -- and not less. I do not see much support for Public Transport in Geneva which is a severe problem.

You mean I would have to leave my Porsche Cayenne, my Ferrari and my Lamborghini in the garage(s) and mingle with Muggles on the tram???

I've lived here for over 40 years. I'm part of the furniture!!

I love it here, apart from the usual problems most cities have. I also live in Eaux Vives and use the buses to get around. I haven't driven a car in over twenty years and don't miss that one bit. So they can build a bridge or a tunnel - won't bother me one way or the other.

Geneva is my home and is one of the most beautiful cities in the World. I feel honoured to live here. Most of my friends are Genevans from all walks of life, along with longterm expats like myself.

So there, all you jealous, grumpy people!!!!
I also like Geneva, you're lucky to live there. Yep, I'm jealous albeit not grumpy (well....)!

Someone in Kanto SG told me not long ago: "You live in Geneva?? You are SOOOO lucky! It's so...alive! Full of people!"

There we go, we might have the Genferei for everything that goes wrong, but we are alive!

Re: The beginning of the end for Geneva?

Well, I love Geneva and have always had a love affair with it- I used to live there in the 90s.
I was there yesterday sitting by the Lake watching the joggers, Jet d'eau and warm temp and thought - I could move back here!!

Bit late notice, but I'll be parked in the Equinox (Place d'Armes tram stop) in Carouge tomorrow evening (Wednesday) around six in case you're about?!

Re: The beginning of the end for Geneva?

Well, i had a lovely meet up with Anjela on a lovely terrace. And i even got my toilet rolls home without leaving them there or on the tram!!

Taveau, you should join us the next time.

Only downside - no cat to cuddle, the in house cat seemed to be AWOL.

Anjela, looking forward to the next time!!

Re: The beginning of the end for Geneva?

It's really up to Anjela to decide the next time, when she is next in Geneva.

Of course Mrs T can come too!!

I'll just check my diary......

Wednesday the 10th, or the 24th? Same time and place I guess.
I'll have more time on the 24th, need to be in town by seven on the tenth.

If anyone had a say in improving the "banks" on both sides of La Rade and beyond, what would you suggest? Or would you keep it as it is?

Re: The beginning of the end for Geneva?

Okay, I'll be at the Equinox (Place d'Armes, Carouge) for about an hour tomorrow, Wednesday the 10th....from 5:30'ish.
But have to leave around six-thirty for a meeting in town at seven.

Will also be there on the 24th, probably about the same time.

Just in case anyone feels like joining me?!
