Well a fat man might be able to cope with it much better than bees. Or is it harmless to bees?
Glyphosate is a herbicide, not an insecticide.

Those 6 liters are correct, but that makes 80 grams/kg, not 80 mg/kg.
Indeed it does. You spotted the deliberate error. (A small matter of switching from mL to mg...)

I expected you to say "mg" stands for metric gram.

Re: Coop to stop selling Glyphosate

Some of the other issues surrounding roundup/glyphosate or other Organophosphonate based weed killers are the open questions regarding their biodegradability it is not only the toxicity that is the problem but also the fact that they can remain in the environment for long periods of time that has caused concern for the last 20+ years.

The sheer amount that is dumped on gardens and farms and now the carcinogenicity issues stack against the profit this chemical compound has brought in and again it is likely to be the poor that suffers most.

We have enough people suffering from cancer today without adding to it and the cost of treating these people is mounting and we are all paying more for health insurance.

A weed killer that based on a chemical structure related to sarin gas was always likely to have a hidden problem.

The typically quoted half-life of Glyphosate is 44 days in soil. If it degrades, how can it bio-accumulate?
There is absolutely no evidence of Glyphosate causing cancer in humans; the IARC classification is based on animal and in vitro studies.

Re: Coop to stop selling Glyphosate

This lawsuit is not actually based on the potential harm of Glyphosate, but rather on the statement that it "targets an enzyme not found in humans.". This statement is actually true, since the human (or any mammalian) genome does not express the gene to encode said enzyme (EPSP synthase). However, the plaintiff is picking up on the fact that some gut flora may express this enzyme; thereby claiming that human do contain this enzyme (by proxy). This is the entire basis of the lawsuit, not that "glyphosate is harmful".
The lawyer, T. Matthew Philips, is an absolute classic whackjob conspiracy theorist; look up his FB profile.

Pure hydrogen peroxide will explode if heated to boiling, will cause serious contact burns to the skin and can set materials alight on contact. But its chemical structure is comfortingly close to that of water, so I guess you'd be happy to drink it freely...

I have personally tested many soil samples that do not at all concur with the typically quoted 1/2 life.

I agree with regard to this study (link below), however a quick pubmed search unearths many albeit non-substantiated links particularly to non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

It is also quite hard to prove a link as most of the studies carried out for this discussion only covered ran for a limited amount of time

Having studied/worked with the chemical, while the 2A category is in place I would give it a wide berth. Having seen how long it took to confirm the cigarette-lung cancer link I have little trust in man versus large corporations on these issues.

An somewhat unexpected side story Columbia say no to spraying it on coca:

"The median half-life of glyphosate in soil has been widely studied;
values between 2 and 197 days have been reported in the literature.
A typical field half-life of 47 days has been suggested."

Re: Coop to stop selling Glyphosate

So Glyphosate is found in "up to 30 microg/L" is it? Did you know a known carcinogen is present in beer in concentrations upwards of 50g/L? That's a million-fold difference in two substances which have similar LD50 ratings; ~7000 mg/kg for ethanol, ~5600 mg/kg for glyphosate, both classified as "slightly toxic" by the EPA.

Re: Coop to stop selling Glyphosate

using salt or a strong salt solution will work like the vinegar on weeds.

it is really good for Dandelions in the lawn -just pour some in the centre and hope it rains soon, or water it in a bit.

The salt basically messes up the osmotic pressures in the plant cells and kills them that way.

I prefer salting my dandelions after they are in the salad bowl.

Re: Coop to stop selling Glyphosate

Despite Coop banning Glyphosate as an herbicide, it's still found in many beers, including highest concentration in Coop's Prix-Garantie-Bier.
