Emergency Alert Information?

Hey there EF Gang,
Once I again I turn to you in the hope that you can provide me with valuable and helpful information.

So this incident happened yesterday evening as I was putting Lil Dude to bed: http://www.lacote.ch/fr/regions/nyon...et-586-1465010
Windows and doors shook with the loud boom and the dark plumes of smoke were most unnerving.

I was lucky in that I was able to text my friend & neighbor who had walked down to see what was going on and she was able to provide me with info as to what happened.

The reason for the background info brings me to my question: Where would I find information on important or disaster issues in my commune/canton?
For example at my previous location the local police, fire, rescue services utilized social media ( twitter, and facebook) in addition to local news casts that would break into shows if it was something urgent (armed person on the loose in the area, tornado watch, horrific traffic accident, etc) *FYI I DO know about the siren warnings for nuclear issues as I got to hear the testing in February *
It would be most helpful for now if the info was in print so I can do the whole google translate routine.
Thanks in advance for for your help!

Re: Emergency Alert Information?

Look like you do not know about the sirens warning

Those are not solely for nuclear disasters but any disaster (except broken dams). Thus called general alarm. https://www.naz.ch/en/themen/sirenen...allgemein.html
Procedure would be, listen radio (SRG SSR channel), follow procedures, inform neighbors.

Broken dams are signaled by the water alert. https://www.naz.ch/en/themen/sirenenalarm_wasser.html
As immediate action has to be taken this alert is different.

(Non) Surprisingly, this spring, a false alert occurred around the Wäggital or Sihlsee Barrage, and nobody cared or took appropriate measures.

For more information see: http://www.bevoelkerungsschutz.admin...me/themen.html

For natural hazards you can get up to date and official information on:

Re: Emergency Alert Information?

And to answer your question. Emergency alert information through better, faster, and more modern means are not even in its infancy. They simply do not exist.

Hope someone will prove me wrong on this one.

there is a mobile app you can get from la cote to get the info pushes (emergencies, traffic, etc) straight to your mobile. it's a great thing for times like that

If you don't want a newspaper app, then Alertswiss is available.

Re: Emergency Alert Information?

You're supposed to switch on the radio and listen to RSR1. Though I suspect the Coppet gas explosions probably only made on to the news bulletins the next morning. It apparently wasn't a big thing even though it made a lot of noise (and I didn't even hear it though only a couple of kilometres away).
