I live in Germany and now considering the idea of moving to Zurich. I have no idea about taxation and other costs in Switzerland and would like to know how much would I possibly able to save per month if I worked in lived in Zurich. Say that I work as a software engineer in Zurich and my salary is 130000 CHF per year, how much on average I would be able to save from my salary per month? Consider me living an average lifestyle, single house apartment and everything on average.

My current salary in German is 3400 and I save about 1000 Euros every month.

I just need a rough estimate.

PS - Please only consider 100k CHF salary per year not 130k.

100k? Savings? Forget it!

On a salary as low as that, you'll be relying on dumpster diving and/or the provision of intimate services each evening in order to survive.

The going rate for a kidney at the moment is 400 chf, so you can probably hold things together for a few days with that, but what are you going to do when your agent demands your liver and heart?

You've got to think these things through.

Average salary in Switzerland is 90,500 CHF, so if you're living the average life you could save around 8-10k a year.

(assuming average savings for a 91k salary is zero)

(plus you save on the average 0.7 wives and the 2.1 children)

It's the nearest I could get to an even vaguely plausible answer, given the information provided. I went more conservative after you quoted me to account for tax (and in case he decided to sue me for the missing 2k).

Thank you so much for being serious in your answer. So that means it's the same as in Germany.

btw, you quoted the mean instead of median wage, which means it is distorted by the billionaire hedgefund owners. the median wage is lower.

Re: How much one can save in general per month?

100 K is about 8 K per month roughly.
Lets assume 1.5 K month rent (as a single person)
350 per month medical insurance
300 a month internet, phone other bills
1 K a month tax
1 K a month food
1 K a month spending on clothes, going out etc
That leaves about 3 K a month. You might spend more though managing a car, hobbies, higher rent if you have higher tastes.
Also no indication if you are single or with partner, children. I assume from your current salary you are single.
I would say 2 -3 K per month can be saved on 100 K a year on average for a single person living moderately comfortable.

Another way to assess it is to try and save approx. 25 % of your wage per year. This can be easier the more you earn but often when people earn more they spend more.

Assuming you are Single, about 35y old and earning 100K and not 130K (cough)

Your netto is about 6300-6400 after Tax, in your pocket to spend! (lohncomputer.ch)

from that deduct about 250-300 for Insurance costs (ink. Zusatzversicherung)

Your rent depends heavily from where you will live. Zurich might be expensive but you can choose nearby villages etc. Go to homegate.ch and look where prices are for the house you want to live. I will say 1500 is a average to the lower end, but I dont know how many rooms etc you want so thats why i use 1.5K

There are annual costs like Billag, Houseinsurance, Privatpflicht Insurance etc. all about 1K a year (divide it with 12 or not, its your decision)

For Telekoms mobile ist about 150-200 for a decent package Land/Mobile

Shopping for food and stuff is about 1K.

Prostitutes are expensive so you better be gay! Although that can be expensive as well!

So that leaves you with a 3000-3300 CHF saving! Divide reality and you get about 2000-2500 at the end.

Hope that helped!

Is that because nobody earning that little could possibly get a girlfriend?
