Fed up with the people in my building

We have a Washing Machine in our building and nine people use that WM.
Among them 2 are suppose to use it on Saturday and Sunday only as they are working guys and have key to lock the washing room.

I don't understand the rest people. They reserve it early morning and use it till evening and after 8:00 pm we cannot wash because it creates sound pollution.

People don't come to take out their clothes from the WM on time. And if I do this and keep my clothes into it they come to my door with the argument that they are suppose to wash more clothes.
I don't understand much Deutsch.

Please help me in dealing with these people.

Could you not reserve the machine yourself before anyone else has chance to?

Get a rota system going. It's as simple as that. The two weekend fellows should discuss it between themselves.

Then I agree with Busby.

Have a word with your Hauswart. Ours writes out our rota on a calendar for a few months in advance.

What your neighbours are doing is very unfair, can you not take out their washing and put yours in without them knowing it was you who did it?

Re: Fed up with the people in my building

Are they actually using it, or just reserving it early and being lazy about starting? If the latter, go down 15 minutes after the reservation time and if it's not in use then use it yourself.

Put a note on it saying something like "Reservierung nicht rechtzeitig eingesetzt", and leave your washing basket so they can remove your stuff without dropping it on the floor.

If the former, perhaps they are putting one wash on in the morning and one later, taking up the whole day. Maybe you could check at lunchtime?

Remember "early" here is 6am - you may be able to get in before them

If someone comes to your door asking "u kept your clothes in WM"
I cannot deny.
So lying is not the solution.
Definitely I'll have words with Hauswart and will try to find the solution.

They do washing but I think they forget to replace it on time.
sometimes they forget for 1 hr.
These people say if clothes are kept in the wasching room you cannot use the WM until they finished.

I feel its a disgusting process.
I have a kid and have lot of clothes for washing but I believe if i'll do washing thrice or twice in a week then it will be good.

Put their clothes outside the door of the washing room

To be fair it's a good process, if they abide by the rules. The alternative is you buy and fit your own machine, or go to a laundrette.

If you're going to write a note - put "DEFEKT" on the machine

Re: Fed up with the people in my building

to hell with them. take their stuff out the machine and use it. they've voided any claims to reserving it by being late to take the stuff out themselves. probably even reserving it to begin with is not right. if they come to your door and give you crap, just close previously mentioned door.

Re: Fed up with the people in my building

So you are trying to do laundry on a day they have reserved? No wonder they are upset. Obviously the system is not set up well though. There are 7 people who use the machine on 5 days of the week, which means if you are allowed to reserve a whole day, you will only be able to do laundry every week and a half or so. With a small child that would not be enough. So why don't you propose a system where people can only reserve half a day at a time?

I agree apart from the "No wonder they are upset" - if they are being selfish their right to be upset is voided.

0600-2000 = 14 hours

-> half a day is 7 hours

-> enough time to do at least three washes

You don't say how they "reserve" it - is there a sheet or something? If there is then can't you just get your name on it as soon as it goes up?

If not, get down there earlier - if you do that a few times they'll realise they need to discuss with you!

Get a Kenwood Mini. We used to have one. It wasn't plumbed in. Just had a hose that hooked over the side of the bath.

Re: Fed up with the people in my building

People get VERY upset when you move their clothes. The only solution is to knock on their door 5 minutes after the machine has finished and ask them to empty the machine NOW.

You really need to talk to the landlord / caretaker about the reserving system. As Newtoswitz says, half a day is enough for anyone.

Suggest a roster system where you can each reserve 4 periods of one hour each week, between 7 am and 8 pm.

True. But if they refuse to do so (systematically!)? One of my acquaintances found a solution: emptied the WM and dropped the load in front of un-cooperative neighbours' door. Guess what: since then no more "I don't care about what you want, I'm not going to do anything you want from he, just like that because I can" sort of things!
(well he's Swiss-Italian )

Re: Fed up with the people in my building

Ask the hauswart (or even better the landlord) to start a rota and/or add a second machine. Point out that it cannot be possible to wash on a Sunday for the same reason that you are not allowed to wash after 20:00 (=noise).

If the machine is blocked for a long time then empty the contents into the basket if there is one, or on the floor.

We had a German woman who would put in a load before going to work and then taking it out when she got home in the evening. When she did it the second time I emptied it on the floor. She didn't do it a third time.

Experienced the same. Spoke to them. Crossed their overly long entry and put in my name. Nothing helped. Threw their whole stuff on the floor. Worked. An I am NOT a Swiss-Italian.
