Re: Bern area opinions

We will be heading to Schwarzenburg. It was a combination of things that made us pick this place, including:

- Outside the city but well connected (we have spent the past 25 years living in city centres and wanted to try something new - but not too far away) and not too difficult to reach places between Bern and Geneva by car
- Fantastic opportunities for outdoor activities (family of sport nuts)
- Found a great house to rent
- Great first experiences with everything from school, gemeinde, future neighbours etc

Now just need to get all the boxes packed and a few other practical things ;-)

Re: Bern area opinions

Wonderful countryside, and a train service to Bern.

We will be heading to Schwarzenburg. . . .
I lived there for 5 years, but that was up to 25 years ago. It's quite rural, but it suited me perfectly then, with great walks in the area and good public transport connections to Bern etc. It is not for someone who craves bright city lights, though.

Incidentally, the river there , the Sense, forms part of the Röstigraben. This is not a geological feature, it is the language barrier between German and French speaking areas of Switzerland.

Re: Bern area opinions

One month into living in Schwarzenburg and so far this place has exceeded any expectations we had. After 25 years in big(ger) cities we decided to get closer to nature without getting stuck in the middle of nowhere and this place definitely fits that criteria.

A few people "warned" us about getting too local/rural [and we knew it could be tricky] but the welcome we have received from neighbours, kids' school, new friends etc has been fantastic.

Would (probably) never have moved here without young kids or without our growing interest in using our new "playground" just outside the doorstep full of endless trails, mountains etc.

Let us see - this was the first month....so far so good.... ;-)

Re: Bern area opinions

After a month here, you could now change your location from Netherlands to Röstigraben...
