Took the family about a month ago. Don't get to go into the tunnels or see the detector clusters. You do get to see where they test the super magnets and what they look like in X-section. Another stop provides a short multimedia presentation on the history of CERN and how the first accelerator worked.

They don't give any safety briefing regarding head crabs or other hazards in case another rift opens up (Black Mesa Research Facility-1998). My boys were up to speed on that anyway and had crowbars in the car.

Today I heard there's one near Vallorbe but its not easy to find on the web...

anyone know about this? If I find it I will post in case anyone else is interested...

They may mean the WWII underground fort which is near Vallorbe.

There is also a grotto at Vallorbe and a iron/railway museum which are both interesting too. Unfortunately, last time we went to the grotto you couldn't take pictures inside.

Another interesting place to visit, if you don't mind climbing up and down a bit, is the underground mill at Le Locle.

Evidently, there used to be a lot of these around Europe, but this is the only one left now.
