Sutter, I wouldn't feed the worm to the baby whole. Depending on what species it is, the parents might chew the baby's food for it first, then spit it up for the baby to eat.
Obviously, you don't want to eat worms So maybe you can chop it up (ick). I also bet the baby would eat (drink) sugar water. As long as it's getting calories, that's the main thing.
Any idea what kind of bird it is?

I guess feed it every 10-15 minutes with a half-inch of worm or a whole grub. Tomorrow, get some maggots or somesuch worms from a fishing shop. The novelty of finding insects will wear off on the kids quite quickly...
Regarding the night-time. The bird will need to be kept warm as it would usually have its mother sitting on it overnight. Somewhere indoors that's not too dry (so no airing cupboards).
I guess the parents aren't looking any more?
Well, if it survives the night and does well, you've got it for around about two weeks until it fledges and then it'll still need some food from you for a few days after that. When it fledges, you can feed it bits of apples, grapes and raisins (it's quite easy to tame wild Blackbirds using raisins as they're the bird's favourite food), but not before as it needs proteins and fats at this stage.
Good luck, but I stress again, don't be too surprised ifit doesn't make it through the night. Birds are very susceptible to stress and after being hungry and tired for that long it might have been too much.

Yep - bring it in the house. I guess by this point, it's now yours to look after.
I guess you've been here a while, so your heating (even at this time of year) is probably set to 'kill', so that should keep it warm enough. Give it a couple of drops of water to go to bed with. It also won't sleep with the light on, so you might have to get something to cover the box that keeps the light out, but doesn't suffocate it if you can't keep it in a darkened room..

It was probably inevitable but at least you gave it a fighting chance. Why don't you put it in a shoebox & bury it in your garden? | Quote: | | | | | I am so sorry to tell you the baby died i tried to give it mouth to mouth, but it did not work i have just spent the last half an hour crying, and trying to console my daughter i really tried everything, and would like to thank everyone who tried to help me.

Oh, I just read the whole thread, mesmerized. What a wonderful thing you did. Poor baby bird.
Thank you.
e.
As for disposal, I don't know exactly - we used to bury small animals in check book boxes in the garden. But if it's not your garden and the swiss don't use checks....
if you look for this word...Kadaververwertung .... it might tell you what to do. But it's so small - could you not wrap it in paper or plastic and just put it in the trash - I know that sounds rather cold, but it might be the best thing to do.

For a future reference, here's a link to the Wild Bird Care Center's web page: http://www.wildbirdcarecentre.org/en...0of%20rescuing
It's pretty helpful. Sorry you had to go through all of that.

I'm very sorry (have been watching the thread all day but didn't have additional advice to offer as I have no bird knowledge) but you did everything you could - which is probably a lot more than most.
I would put the bird in a little box and bury it in the garden anyways.

Sorry about the baby bird. It is a bummer to watch something pass on under your care.

That's a good idea -- back to Nature and the cycle of Life.
Rest in and be comforted with the knowledge that you had done your very best despite the slim chance of the baby bird surviving.
