Savski has made some interesting contributions
Will the MFK accept winter tyres in the summer!?

I have to go to the MFK soon and somebody told me that I need a piece of paper (which costs CHF90) from a Swiss (must be Swiss!) wheel seller to prove that the alloys I bought in Germany are accepted here in Switzerland. Purely out of principle, I intend to put my regular steel wheels with winter tyres back on the car for the test.

Anyone know if the winter tyres would prove a problem for the test?

Thanks in advance.

Think about the difference between winter tyres and summer tyres and why people drive those different tyres? Guess the MFK will have a similar opinion.

As long as they have sufficient profile, it is not a problem.

Re: Will the MFK accept winter tyres in the summer!?

Using winter tyres in the summer, isn't a safety issue (like it would be the other way round) - it just wears them down much quicker, because the rubber compound is completely soft in the heat - but grippy.

You'll probably get some snidey comment from the 'expert', though.

Swissies have been running down their winters in the summer (when they wont go another season) for decades.

Chf 90.-- is cheap. Have an accident with non authorisied rims and watch your insurance company squirm and fiddle around.

It will also be far easier to sell, anybody savy will know you need a paper for rims, other tham OEM.

Agree. You ll need that certificate anyways. Although e.g. if they make one of their checks.
Winter tyres are ok. If your speed index of the winter tyers is below the max speed of your car need to put a sticker in your car indicating the max speed of your tyres. maybe that this rules has been abolished.

Winter tires driven in summer must cover the top speed of your car AFAIK.

The rule with the max speed sticker was in force for only about two or three years (IIRC) because everybody found it a ridiculous rule given that the highest legal speed is 120 kph.

You don't even need to have an accident. Enough to get checked by the police and you'll end up paying quite a bit more than those CHF 90.

That's only in Italy (Italy: fined when using winter tyres after May 15 2014 )

About your rims. Either check your cars TARGA-Tyre extract (Available at any Swiss tire dealer, if you do NOT have Typeapproval X) or your COC if you have type apporval X, which rim sizes/dimensions and materials have already been approved. You only need a paper for rims which do not exactly match the approved dimensions.
