I would take the pilot training with both hands, you can always train to be an IT Wallah/desk monkey.
Yes, many 'professional' jobs nowadays involve gazing into LED backlit screens sitting on your ar5e all day, but I can't think of a better view (when you're glancing away from the screen) than from above the cloud layer.

Go for it. Learn how to fly, meet untold numbers of stewardesses and teach yourself about IT in your spare time, or when the computer is flying the plane (learn about exactly how the computer flies the plane while you're chatting up that hot stewardess). Quit in a few year's time if/when you're bored, and once you're qualified.

You're young, and it shows - don't post anything more about this on public forums - you've already said way more than it would take for someone at the company you're talking about to identify you.

edit: or combine the two - you're obviously smart (apart from treating a public forum like Facebook, where your posts are somewhat private - but you're a kid) - maybe learn how to fly and combine your IT knowledge with flying - They must be complex systems, and when you can both fly and programme in a decade from now imagine the possibilities - Amazon drone delivery lead programmer by a qualified pilot could be just one example - your own startup from what you've learned would be better (but please, please do it on kickstarter and don't give any equity to bankers in that case). Who knows how these two skills might combine a decade from now? There must be few people who have the possibilities you have before you now - IMO, I'd take the one that even fewer people will be offered (and one you've dreamed about for years from your OP) and probably won't be offered again. If you've already been given a place in IT/edu, it will be easy for you to get the same offer again when you're in your late twenties - especially when you're a qualified pilot.

Nice girl/man whatever your preference in the pub, she/he asks you "what do you do for a living then?" Oh I`m a computer engineer = go home alone.

Or "what do you do for a living then?" Oh I`m a pilot for Swiss = go home not alone.

Now it may be a simple analogy but it will be important. So are you a Mr Bean or a Captain Flasheart?
Please... that has nothing to do with a career... that's called flirting and girls do not get impressed that easily now days... unless you pay with a platinum american express

I guess we'll have to bow to your superior knowledge on that front.

you can call it an observation, even better, a sober observation, something you may not be that familiar with.

I'm sorry - thought your comments were serious for a moment. My mistake.

Re: Continue at ETH or become pilot at SWISS?

OP,

IMO you have two options:

1. If you really love the idea of becoming a pilot, go to Swiss after ensuring that you can do comp sci later on. When done with mandatory stay at SWISS (18 months training plus 2 years employment from what I understand from this thread), tone it down and do comp sci on the side, or take an unpaid leave for 1-2 semesters to get a good start in comp sci, later going back to part time pilot work and completing comp sci at the same time.

2. If you're not absolutely sure you want to stick to only pilot work for 3.5 years - meaning, if your heart is not in it 100%, don't do it and go for comp sci instead.

As to family planning, staying in one place and flexibility, it all depends on your personal preference. Know that whatever you do, if you find it dull you will be annoyed with your circumstances no matter what they are. OTOH if your circumstances are lousy (shift work, not enough pay etc.), work can be nice but you won't have as much of a place to "refuel" after work.

Personally, I'd strongly factor in the possibility of being able to continue/restart comp sci in a couple years, also the possibility of being able to do it part-time. Make sure you get answers to this question in writing so that you have something to fall back on in a couple of years and not a he-said-she-said situation.
If it isn't possible to do comp sci later on and part-time, I'd not take the SWISS offer and do comp sci. Because, who knows, maybe a SWISS offer will pop up later in life, but ETH comp sci leaves you with more opportunities to do different types of work than a pilot job does.

Sleep over this decision for at least a week before saying yes or no. Good luck!

Commonly known as a bonding agreement... illegal.in germany btw.
Same here. I seem to remember that, in banking IT 15-20 years ago (so you're talking 6-figure annual salaries) a Konventionalstrafe exceeding 500 CHF a month, and/or for more than three years was ruled excessive and thus to be ignored.

No. It is not free. You HAVE to work for them for 2 years, like it or not. They do, one way or the other, amortize their investment.
Not necessarily true from a legal POV.

Expenses indispensable to do the work must be shouldered by the employer, can not be shifted over to the employee under any circumstances. Since OPs formation by SWISS is such an indispensable expense, the whole agreement may be illegal and therefor that contract portion void. See OR Art. 327a, in particular paragraph 3, which is explicitly enforced by OR Art. 362.

Re: Continue at ETH or become pilot at SWISS?

biggest downsides to a pilot career is the upfront costs with uncertain job placements. your option just eliminated the 2 biggest obstacles to an interesting career. to me, it's a no brainer.

i also had t make a fly or study decision 20 year ago. i chose the latter and ended up with in a great position in the corporate world. if i were to do it all over, i think i would have taken the risk to fly.
