Re: Need plugs and adaptors

Your local Fust or Interdiscount (I think it's called!) should have them. We bought a load from Amazon before we came - you can get stuff delivered here but beware the import duty thingy. Can be 'spensive. And watch the voltage on your appliances. We brought electrical equipment from the UK that simply didn't work here (hair dryers, kettle etc). Then we played toaster/microwave roulette for a time before conceding defeat and buying new ones here. Then again, we know people who simply rewired their things, changing their plugs to Swiss ones and had no issues! Hope you get/got sorted quickly.

Cut off the plugs and rewire Swiss ones at about a chuf a time.

If you have transformer plugs, then use a UK plug bank (if you brought any with you) with a Swiss plug replacing the UK one.

Otherwise, the usual suspects - Interdiscount, MediaMarkt, Fust - even Landi, should have something.

Re: Need plugs and adaptors

We bought a few 4 way UK adaptors (Amazon sell them, and will ship to CH) then wired a Swiss plug on instead of the UK one. That way you split one Swiss socket to four UK sockets, and it's cheaper than buying the proper adaptors (and will safely pass more current than a cheap converter as well)

What did you end up doing! I have both UK and Dutch plugs now. The joy to have another set of adapters. For all my uk stuff i use 4/6 plug extension cables with the one end using an adaptor. I'm not confident in swapping my appliances over to Swiss plugs.

Having recently made a loft room in our flat habitable with a laminate floor I've run an extension cable round the walls behind the skirting which will have these universal removable sockets fitted, ordered last week and waiting on delivery.

Took a bit of hunting down, but they will accept UK, euro and Swiss plugs, as well as having built-in USB outlets removing the need for all the chargers that are constantly getting moved around and misplaced.

My boss brought over a couple of those multi point plugs over from the UK and plugged the UK plugs into that then used a Swiss adapter to plug the whole thing in.

So far everything works and nothing has burned down.

Re: Need plugs and adaptors

I did the UK multiplug one adapter thing for a while. But in the end I just bought a bunch of Swiss plugs and rewired everything. It's neither difficult nor time-consuming. I still regularly buy electrical goods in Germany and rewire if required. I am not technically minded but wiring plugs is not rocket science. So far everything works and nothing got damaged, I have never even tripped a fuse. I'm coming up to 6 years in Switzerland.
