Patrouille Suisse is awesome

I came across this youtube 360 video of Patrouille Suisse. You need to use Chrome browser or Youtube app in order to pan/rotate the video. Everything from the cockpit views to mountain scenery fascinated me. Just curious if anyone can tell where this video was taken.

The description says Berner Oberland.

10-20seconds into the video the lake in the background is probably the east end of Brienzersee, with Brienz and Schwanden visible.

The F-5 is one of my favorite fighters. It's incredibly agile.

Sorry, disagree. I have an aeronautical background. It is so agile that it was used until recently in the USA as an "aggressor" aircraft for training purposes.

It was incredibly agile in the 1960s & 1970s.
So I will help you with your next book: "...the Tiger was incredibly agile not only in the 60s and 70s, but also in the 80s, 90s and 00s. Because of its agility, it's still used today by the US Navy to help train pilots of much more modern fighters."

I'll make you co-author. You can write the bit about how the US Navy uses F-5s because they're cheaper than F-16s for training.

Re: Patrouille Suisse is awesome

The Blue Angels used to use the F4 - now that was a plane.

They're (F4's) now all lined up, wing-to-wing, collecting dust, down at Davis Monthan ...... there's a Google Earth pic. worth looking up, if you like military plane graveyards.

Back to the Patrouille Suisse, they often go over my house on their approach into Payerne ..... did so a couple of days ago at about 1900, after they were seen in Basel.

The Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountains are visible quite a bit. It is broadly over the Lauterbrunnen to Grindelwand area

Re: Patrouille Suisse is awesome

A random question/comment...
-Do they fly in a 6 plane or 7 plan formation? At times I see 6 including camera plane and other times 7 including the camera plane?
-At about 4 minutes, 5 of the planes roaring as they bank right; leaving the camera plane. All of a sudden, another plane emerges from the valley clouds to join/intercept the formation. It's like these pilots are ninjas
or something

Displays are six planes. I guess that the seventh was for the filming

The current cameraman for the 2015 season is a friend of mine, Yannick Barthe.

Check out his vimeo movie page for more clips.

Re: Patrouille Suisse is awesome

This is just awesome; I would say this was being filmed during a display just before the Lauberhornrennen (the men's downhill ski race at Wengen every Jan, it's 15th-17th in 2016, plug plug). Patrouille Suisse is one of the highlights of the race weekend for us. This year they brought along a passenger jet and gave a jaw dropping demonstration of flying wizardry.
