Are fireworks allowed at the moment?
Lookie here

I'll be eating pork chops and salad and enjoying the fireworks, sleeping in and gleefully thinking about next year - Aug 1st on a Monday means a long weekend

I will spend 1 August as I usually do, trying to better the epileptic mutt's chances of avoiding a fireworks-induced seizure.

It's not as bad as it sounds though. The best place to hide is the wine cellar.

If the weather cooperates, if the random left-over fireworks aren't too bad, we'll go for a hike on Sunday, likely somewhere local.

IMO the best way to celebrate 1 August - or the day after - is on the top of a mountain.
As long as the wine cellar isn't empty, I'd be enclined to join you!

I agree with you that the best place yo celebrate August 1st is on a mountaintop. Hoping to get somewhere higher up Sunday, and possibly later during the week.

It's our first "1st of August" here in CH, so we'll celebrate locally - go and eat some bratwurst, down some bier, and let the kids enjoy a pony ride or two at the local Waldshutte. Maybe in the evening, hike to a good hill, to see the fireworks.

But if I were you, Trollemor, I'd party hard - life ohne Trolls is for partying
You know what's best about life "ohne Troll"? It's how quiet and orderly things are around here. I feel absolutely no need to expose myself to noise when I finallymhave the full control of the decibel level in the house. It's utter bliss, and you have to have kids, preferably at least one of them a boy to understand the value of silence. And of uninterrupted conversations (uninterrupted anything, really) with Trollefar.

Happy National Day everyone, not sure how they say it in Swiss German, but I wish you all a good August 1st!

Depends where you are.

Tom
So anybody knows for sure if tonight fireworks are banned in Zug or not? It has rained in the morning and it looks like another shower or two ... but just want to be sure and not get into any trouble with the local constabulary

Or should I just get my stash of fireworks to Zurich or elsewhere that allows fireworks tonight?

I'm looking forward to some me time, after a busy few weekends. Heading to the ice rink in Wetzikon, explore around some of the lakes in the Oberland, then back for local fireworks.

This was found via the ZG link given on the Waldbrandgefahr site. Waldbrandgefahr.ch updates information as each canton releases it.

Re: So, what are your plans for August 1st?

Last year we went to the lakeside and watched all the fireworks from our town and all the neighbouring towns around the lake, it was wonderful! And warm. We are hoping to do the same tonight although it is supposed to rain again later. I wonder if the Swiss are anything like the Brits who don't seem to mind that it rains pretty much every November 5th! (and is usually freezing as well; I so enjoyed last year, my first time watching fireworks without shivering!)

If you're in SZ by the lake, are you by any chance going to the Bächmatt gathering?

Also, does anyone know why the Swiss like to set off fireworks during daylight

They're not allowed to make noise after dark.

...... and please remember, in many Kantons, open fires and letting off fireworks, especially rockets, in open areas is strictly forbidden because of the very dry conditions .......

So sorry! Just saw this. Was a free food, cash bar event for Bäch residents. I ended up discussing world affairs and diving possibilities with a couple of proper Swiss Opas in Lachen in the end. PMing you as you seem close.
