Problem with trams in Zurich today?

Anyone know what is going on? 13 and 17 both appear not to be running, replacement buses only at infrequent intervals. The trams I have seen go past are all completely empty. Can't find any news of engineering works or problems.

The usual problems are caused by idiots driving into the trams at Enge Bedenerstrasse. This time it appears to be a broken down tram at Waffenplatz

VBZ is giving all announcements in Standard German, so that I do not see your point

If it's the same High German that they use in Bern train station to announce a problem, then it's certainly not the same kind that I learned at school!

The standard announcements are very clear, but this was a tram driver having a bit of a rant. If that was meant to be in high German, it was heavily accented

While the VBZler of course HAVE an accent it for sure is not half as strong as what they celebrate in Bern. In other words I am sure that you will understand the VBZ announcements.

HERE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxEauRq1WxQ is the Bernese Version of American English

At least one of the people making the VBZ announcements at present is a German and his speech is definitely high high German, with maybe just a very fine hint of Sächsich.

In DDR times there was a huge scene with people re-enacting native American times and dressing up and camping in wigwams. The DDR also produced a large number of movies based on Karl May books. Many of which now have cult status.

The DDR regime encouraged this of course as it was their way of casting the history of the USA into disrepute (which was not Karl May's intention). But the popularity of the movement lives on despite the political component having gone away.

Not sure what this has got to do with trams though.

Quite a lot, as many tram-Drivers and S-Bahn Drivers are from the same area as Karl May
