Common sense mode obviously.
Anything else would be a complete over the top typical EF overreaction.

It seems to me that he is just doing exactly what he does everyday when he goes off to work in the mornings ie. Locking the door behind him. It's probably completely slipped his mind that the spare key his wife normally uses was given to you before their holiday.
Men have brains like a sieve ( well mine does he as locked me in our honeymoon hut in tha Maldives while I was sleeping in the afternoon he went playing volleyball with the locals and got carried away forgot about me I was banging on the door for hours no one heard me ) he told me afterwards he did not want anyone to come into the hut and hurt me, but it was still not nice being locked up

The local Maldives volleyball playing ladies are really quiet something to behold, indeed they possess voluptuous figures I'm told.

In France they do the opposite, just to be safe.

The french are indeed completely the opposite. Have you read the story about the French couple who died after being overcome with the desert heat while hiking in New Mexico? They sacrificed to save the life of their 9 year old son by giving him the bulk of their water supply.

I showed this to all my near-by neighbors working on music at my friend's Drum shop here in Littau.
We all can't really believe someone would post such a siily thing here;and not call the local police first.Wow...

Being on EF doesn't influence my reactions, but it does influence my opinions, i.e that there's an awful lot of arrogant dickhead foreigners living here (not based on this thread, just in general, like).

I live in the "Land Where Parents Forget Their Tiny Babies In Hot Cars In The Middle Of The Summer." Some of those parents have actually been so immersed in their own deep thoughts that they have unintentionally killed their own children by leaving them in the back seat of the car, so I do believe a serious mistake can be made while one is unfocused.

EDIT - As per OP this is exactly what happened, I am waiting for my prize -- an apology from Richdog.
Just back from vacation where he was being careful about locking the door. OOPS

Stop being a dick and read the post.

Might work better if you open your bloody eyes, though.

Reading something doesn't mean you understand it...

Did you know that a sizable percentage of Amercicans can't understand how they're supposed to take aspirin when reading the instructions in the box?

Being locked in (inadvertently) is probably not as bad as being locked up because of a door that locks when it (inadvertently) closes behind you. Doors like that should have fingerprint entry.

They did, but as they were all stoned in the studio, they "saw" their own version!

It reminds me of my Californian niece who was getting all sorts of "reading prizes" in her school for being "top reader" and who, at the age of 11, was struggling to read stuff my daughter was reading at 6. All is relative.

I have to say I found your post very amusing and entertaining with all the Swiss rules and possible outcomes when you had a second pair of keys all along
Comes to prove you have truly intergrated

It was a funny post - thank you for sharing!

Our neighbours, although ‚to-the-east-of-the-Aegean‘ aliens, have seemed well integrated up till now and appear to have accepted the Swiss ideas of family life. They came back from a three week holiday in the husband’s homeland, where different cultural ideas prevail, on Saturday. This morning I get a phone call from the (very young and attractive) wife. Her husband locked her, together with their two small children, in the flat when he left for work this morning.

Click into EF Panic mode: Police – which ones. Emergency Police? Town Police? Canton Police? Or shall I call a locksmith to let her out? Or the fireservice to break the door down. Or shall I just ask Mr. L to break in?

Click to EF Insurance Mode: Who pays the emergency police call out? Or the locksmith? Who pays to have the lock or the door repaired or replaced? If Mr. L injures himself or the children when he breaks the door down, is it illness, accident or third party liability?

Click into EF Social Mode: I’m a regular churchgoer. I could ask one of the ministers what I should do. They know me and will surely know the best course of action to take. (This service would be free too, which is a nice thought)

Click into Common Sense Mode: I could take the wife’s key, which I have had for the past three weeks to enable me to get into their flat to water the flowers, open the door, give her her key back and we could all live happily ever after - except the husband, who will surely be in big trouble for forgetting that I had the second key and not his wife, when he cheerfully locked the door this morning.
