Post fees for picking up a parcel

Hello all,

I bought some things for $248 value on internet. I expected to pay taxes and the handling fee for customs. What has been my surprise today when I arrive home and I see a paper from 'Die Post' and the number 120CHF to be paid in order to pick up the parcel. I was expecting around 60CHF. I find a bit excessive that they want to change me half of the value of the items! Is that normal? Do you know what happens if I do not pick up the parcel? Even if I do not receive the items (because I do not pick them up) would I have to pay 120CHF?

Thanks!

Re: Post fees for picking up a parcel

Don't pick up the parcel, it will be sent back free of all charges to you.

Next time you could have it sent "Post Restante," your name, French post Office, Address in France. Then you pay any taxes to La Poste.

It is under CHF 300,- so you can import it personally here free of charge.

If you are very clever, you might get the La Poste, French tax returned as well!

They keep it for about 10 days, so ask the sender for a tracking number.

Seeing the price is quoted in $, quite likely it came from outside Euro zone and therefore will be subject to EU taxes and VAT, maybe not so smart to ship to France.....

Re: Post fees for picking up a parcel

I do not care any more about the goods any more. I just want to make sure that they are not going to charge me some handling or whatever fee even if I do not receive the goods (pick up)

Thanks for your answers

Re: Post fees for picking up a parcel

Depends on where and who the seller is. Probably outside EU as OP mentions USD amount.

Re: Post fees for picking up a parcel

i ordered it from an accessory online shop in Israel. Friends of mind have ordered several times and they haven't had those problems. Why would it be different? I have no clue. Would they try charge the sender with those 120 chf? I haven't import anything as I haven't picked it up so why would the import fees been charged?
