The Swiss Rules you love to break

So, it's Friday, and for a good Friday thread I was wondering if there are any typically Swiss rules that forum members break on a regular basis. I'm not talking big misdemeanors, just small things that you do, knowing that you shouldn't, just because it makes life that little bit easier.

To get the ball rolling, I'll give a few examples:
  • In the summer I'll regularly throw out meat packaging into the bin without using the correct gemeinde bin bags. Reason being that by the time I've filled up a sack these things start to stink in the heat.
  • Boarder crossings. I'll regularly come back from across the boarder with far too much wine, spirits and beer. Occasionally meat too. I know one day I'll most likely get caught, but in all my time here nothing's ever happened, so I just carry on doing it. The one occasion I did get stopped with 3 cases of wine in the boot, the boarder guard just asked if they were for me, grunted and waved me on my way. More recently I took my tortoise across the boarder without any paperwork. I knew it was wrong, but I just weighed up the hassle of sorting it all out with the chances of getting stopped, caught and punished.
  • Furniture disposal. Not really breaking the rules, but now I put out old furniture on the street for collection without any gemeinde stickers on it. This is because I know, 9 times out of 10 someone will come and pick it up and take it away anyway for themselves. But I guess if it was still out there after a few days I'd stick some stickers on it.

About two years ago I mowed my lawn on a Sunday because it was the only day without rain... my heart still races when I think about it

Last night I ran across a road at "red man" even though no cars were coming. A lady yelled at me and I yelled back "Ja i weiss - bi eifach durre bi rot".

Sometimes I cross the road within 50m of a pedestrian crossing when I'm out running.

Re: The Swiss Rules you love to break

I sometimes park the motorbike on the pavement when I'm not 100% sure that there is 150cm of space left for pedestrians etc to pass. (note: I'm aware that the 150cm is not a rule as such but in Geneva at least the tolerance for parking scooters and motorbikes on the pavement is quite high)

My mate sometimes leaves his engine running whilst his missus dashes into the shops or he's waiting for her outside the station.

I don't think they are technically laws, but does the mighty "Hausordnung" count? Anything related to washing machine etiquette...

Re: The Swiss Rules you love to break

I beat a rug last Sunday... Across the street over a public park football goal crossbeam (it was a big rug). I had the inkling I was breaking a dozen laws.

Re: The Swiss Rules you love to break

My schedule of doing laundry in the condominium I live is saturday... Last saturday was a public holiday here in Zug, tonight I fly away for vacations so I sneaked last night after 22:00 into the laundry room, used two waching machines 1hour programm, then 2 dryers 1 hour programm. No one suspected.

Re: The Swiss Rules you love to break

In Basel airport (which is technically in France) you can walk up to any unstaffed gate and sit in the seat and make announcements over the public address. I try to make one nonsense announcement every time I fly.

Re: The Swiss Rules you love to break

After an emergency situation in the kid's room, I used the tumble dryer in the laundry room last Sunday whilst it clearly says it is not allowed.

Do I need to go and see a shrink now?
