Is anyone else having trouble with "The Local.ch", I seem to be stuck on August 7th edition and unable to upload anything else.

Re: The Local

Don't tell me you actually use the site for news... you'd always stuck two weeks or more in the past.

perhaps they have so much traffic on the website that they can't update it anymore.

No, it is still updating daily. You probably need to clear your history and maybe your cookies and then try again.

Looks like some developer focked up, I get an mostly blank screen with a print popup.

Perhaps try their RSS feed instead:

Why? They don't have regular Swiss articles. Like it or not The Local and Swiss Info are the only two sources I know of in Switzerland for those of us who can't read French/German/Italian and want to keep up with what's happening here.

Re: The Local

I've been reading the Berner Zeitung, and using Chrome's translate option.

http://www.bernerzeitung.ch/

The translation reads a bit odd frequently. Hopefully my German lessons star helping.

Forget reading in English.

Get the Fridolin and just look at the pictures.

Exactly.

Most of what gets into The Local or Swissinfo is written by expats who have less understanding of the local situation than yourself. Most of the content appears to be lifted from places like Blick (which is itself trash journalism), polished a up a bit and then published long after the news has ceased to be relevant. Swissinfo is actually just The Local with a bit of bad attitude mixed in.

Google translate and a reliable Swiss news source should serve you far better. Of course best is to learn the local language - and strangely (at least in my experience) reading newpapers is one of the best ways to do this as, unless you're reading the NZZ, journalists tend to adopt a simple and predictable language with a limited vocabulary that won't test your skills to the limit - and you're learning about local politics and happenings at the same time you're picking up the language.

Didn't know of that one Deep Purple so thanks for posting the link. It's even more out of date than the Local is supposed to be though. Still, a couple of stories there I hadn't seen anywhere else.
