Nice things today.

Thanks stranger, for showing me the Migros 300ml and 1l plastic measuring cups with cups/gram measurement on them.

Thanks saleslady, for advising me that they're only there temporarily and that i thus will have to decide very soon if I want a red or a green one.

Thanks bus driver, for waiting that extra second for me to catch your bus and not miss my connections.

Thanks EF, for providing popcorn-worthy threads even though it isn't Friday
for informing everyone of Billag policies and possibilities to solve complicated rental issues
as well as for writing caring, helpful posts in other places.

Thanks EF mods, for keeping the spam down to a minimum lately.

Re: Nice things today.

Excellent! Thanks, glowjupiter, for this thread and your opening post.

Nice today: someone phoned in good time to change an arrangement (and not just at the last minute) so we easily found a different slot.

Someone else visited me and made me laugh about 10 times within an hour or two.

I will say thanks to my herb seeds when they've decided to sprout - if they ever do so, that is

Re: Nice things today.

Brought some stuff over to St Gallen to help a friend who is helping someone who is in need of everything (Opferhilfe, abused woman), had a lovely talk with my sister (and bought a car). So much to be thankful for and you never really think about that so thanks for starting this post!

Re: Nice things today.

Thanks to icloud.coms "find my phone" this morning, for helping me locate my "lost" iphone, after having frantically searched for it 'til 2am this morning (and not having been able to sleep worrying about whether and where it could have been nicked...).

(It was under a scrap of paper )

Re: Nice things today.

I needed a certain shape and size of large plastic box. Found exactly that in the Brockenhaus today, sturdy and in good condition, for Fr. 2. Lucky me!

Re: Nice things today.

Was in a taxi and in the middle of the ride realized I didn't have sufficient money. Told the driver to pull over, so I could walk the rest of the distance, but he stopped the taximeter and drove me to my destination anyway. He told me a bit about his family.. said I reminded him of his daughter who's back in his home country. He missed her and her baking. Told him I'd ring him up next time I need a cab and bring home-baked cookies

Re: Nice things today.

Now at Coop you can scan your items, put them in the bag, and do the "self-checkout", which I think is really convenient and saves a lot of time.

It just amazes me that this is possible in this country and simply unthinkable in most others in the world.

And the employee there was so nice to explain me everything. At some point the machine said my age needed to be checked because I bought some beer, and he told me he didn't need to see my ID. Now compare that to the US where everybody shopping with you needs to show their ID (even if they look 39).

On the subject of "unthinkable in other countries", you can just lift up the gas nozzle, start fiilling up your tank and pay inside later. In the meantime in America, you have to prepay for gas or leave an ID by the cashier if you use a foreign ("international") credit card... Oh convenient. Apparently by 2018 they should finally install chip readers and accept European / Canadian credit cards:

"... has been possible for many years in most western countries other than America" would be more accurate. The part that surprises me is that Switzerland has ALREADY adopted this new technology, only a decade or so after everyone else...

Anyway, thank you to the farm three minutes from my suburban front door, with its automatic vending machines offering farm-fresh eggs and milk whenever I feel the need at 3:00 in the morning!
