Charity donations and Volunteering n Geneva

I would like to:

(A) make a small donation to a local charity in Geneva area

(B) volunteer my time for some charity as well. Ideally some organization that might need managerial skills.

Any suggestions welcome. If you know of charities that could fit either of the above please let me know.

Thanks

Caritas. I worked at one of their shops to improve my French whilst waiting for the appropriate paperwork to get a "real" job.

Re: Charity donations and Volunteering n Geneva

Voyager, it would be helpful if you gave more information. What area of charity work are you looking to get involved in?

For instance, helping children, or parents, or the elderly, or the homeless, or refugees, or animals? Are you interested in environmental work, in back-to-work/ learning new skills support, in integration efforts, in promoting cultural activities, in religious programs? Are you interested in local projects, or international? Are you interested in 'on the street' involvement, or are you interested in policy/advocacy work?

It's great that you want to get involved. But 'volunteering' covers such a wide swathe. What are your passions, skills, experience, interests? If you give us more information we can likely help direct you in a more useful way.

Re: Charity donations and Volunteering n Geneva

Thank you Neddy, Patsycat and Meloncollie. Your suggestions and questions are very thoughtful and thought provoking. Much appreciated. I will explore the specific Charities you have mentioned above.

I do realize I haven't expressed my questions with as much background as I should have. My primary interest is to support/be involved in the local/regional community/cantonal charitable efforts. I feel I might be more clearly able to see and experience how some of my donation/effort may also benefit local residents or society in Geneva or environs.

My desire would be to directly put to use some of my professional skills to work for a non-profit cause. I have several years experience in a multi-national organization in marketing and business strategy including leading large teams. I could certainly use some of my experience to serve on the board of a charitable organization perhaps to guide their long and short term planning efforts using my strategy skills from the business world; or perhaps provide specific help to evolve a marketing plan or develop more/better fund raising plans, etc. Really any way to reapply my professional expertise would be just fantastic.

If there are organizations supporting blind people/children; cancer patients or simply care for old people these would be of particular interest to me. These are some of the concerns closer to my heart.

At the least I would like to make a small donation to an organization involved in support activities related to the above in the Geneva area; and possibly also give my time and experience.

I hope that this is somewhat more specific and you may be able to help me find an appropriate avenue to translate my desire to something productive.

Again, thanks.
