Match the Swiss with the British towns!

I have just finished watching Episode 1 of "Raised by Wolves":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SC3GRq0JrXo

Not everyone's cup of tea, but it does make me laugh: having a lot of friends in Wolverhampton, especially in the Bushbury area, I used to spend quite a lot of time there in my youth and thinking what a dump it was. Yet, I loved the people...despite the accent!

Is there a Wolverhampton equivalent in Switzerland? Then I thought us Brits and adopted Brits could play a game of match between towns and cities of U.K. and CH. Who is starting?

Leicester in Switzerland would be.... (Odile, suggestions?)

Leicester just could not be, in Switzerland- honest. Which is why I love it.

Re: Match the Swiss with the British towns!

I know I've mentioned it before, but Glarnerland reminds me a lot of south Staffordshire, with its mix of rural and early industrial landscapes. The sense of humour is definitely the same!

Glarus town itself is a lot like Cannock used to be back when Clarke's department store was still open.

nope and Biel neither!

Must say, I like things to be different and not keen to compare. And also hate being asked 'which do you prefer?' - be it about towns, countries, flowers, cheese, birds - the differences is what make them so special.

Re: Match the Swiss with the British towns!

I can't think of a single Swiss town or city that would be even remotely similar to any godforsaken industrial backwater in the UK.

Re: Match the Swiss with the British towns!

A few years ago I shared a taxi from Manchester airport with a couple who lived in Burnley, Lancashire. They asked me where I had been and I told them Switzerland. The taxi dropped me off first at my house in Rossendale, Lancashire, and the lady of the couple exclaimed.... " but this is like Switzerland!"
I have to say, parts of Rossendale are very pretty.
This is almost the view we had from the taxi..

Re: Match the Swiss with the British towns!

It's not comparable but if I was forced to then the closest comparison would be Box Hill in Surrey to Gempen in Basel Land.

If I ever goback to UK, the ill try to bring Switzerland to UK by buying a plot of land in Dorking and building a Huf house.

Have Zürich, Luzern, Geneva on one side, and Bournemouth, Weymouth, Exeter and Bristol on the other

Winterthur on one side and Newcastle on the other

Schaffhausen and Lugano on one side and Brighton on the other

Not towns but villages.
Poddington = Alpthal. Never heard of either of them? Exactly. They are the sort of place you might go through without even noticing if you were going somewhere else.
