Garden Plots via the Gemeinde

Today I was really impressed by the Monchaltorf Gemeinde / Municipality.

I live in a flat and the one of the things that I missed was being in a garden and doing my own gardening.

I saw that people from another flat nearby had a garden plot complex and I wanted to join. They told me that, unfortunately, that specific plot was only available for people from that flat.

Probably taking pity from the disappointed look on my face, they told me that I could perhaps ask in the gemeinde for more information.

I had no idea that that was possible. A gemeinde (I don't know if all gemeindes have that option) who offers garden plots? I had to check that out.

So finally I mustered enough courage and went to the gemeinde. In my 'broken' German I found out that apparently you can rent garden plots for less then 10 CHF a month with them.

Luckily for me they had a plot free, after this post I am going to check it out with my dog.
So excited!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mabon, the Autumn Equinox, is also a good time to start preparing your garden for next Spring and depending on what you want - and the condition of your soil- you can already start with planting

I am so happy now, I love living here!

Great! These plots are called "Schrebergarten" or "Familiengarten" or "Kleingarten", see here for Zurich

It never does to get too cheerful and jump the gun though. The powers that be sometimes have ideas which differ from ours.

Check this post out.

Seriously, enjoy the garden, the planning and the produce.
