You were able to bathe every day?

Ha! We could only bathe once a month - and that was with a damp sponge which we had to share with the next door neighbours and their dog.

You people don't know you're born.
Luxury!

Maybe it should be an election issue ,to have it the same meaning from coast to coast to coast

Re: 6am.. alarm woes

What I do is take half a sleeping pill the night before. It gives me a good night sleep, so getting up the next morning is not the problem it once was.

I've trained my dogs not to wake me up in the morning, maybe that was a mistake.
You are welcome to borrow my alarm clock. It's set to go off at 5:34 am. Resistance is futile.

My alarm clock sings. Believe me, you WILL get out of bed.

Always a fan of teaching a dog to do an acceptable action rather than trying to teach a dog not to do something unacceptable, I am trying to get Heffalump to sing a tad more tunefully as his basic wake-up function. I thought we'd start with 'The Well-Tempered Collie', but he's not having any of it.

So far...

Re: 6am.. alarm woes

ok from a scale from
guantanomo bay
to
unicorns puppies kittens and baby dolpins

there seem to be a lot of guantanamo bay type options.

6am-alarm-woes-105246d1444213834-6am-alarm-woes-image.jpg
Toughing it out, getting a bit military, just getting up, just like that,

at the puppies kittens and baby dolphin end of the spectrum
I think the philips is winning with 3 plusses
with the coffee maker a close second

in between and worth integrating
lifestyle app and bracelet
sleep cycle management (1.5hrs, going to sleep earlier, later)
sleep better (sleeping pill/hypnosis?)
triple alarm / failsafe mechanisms
training your dog to wake you up in a pleasant way.

Re: 6am.. alarm woes

The only reason I wake up at 6AM is because my wife wants me to do my husbandly duties.

Why do you need to wake at 6AM?

Meanwhile, in the good old days (when I was a poor university student and needed to wake up at 4AM for my weekend job), I modified my clock radio to blast music from my 200W guitar amps. Worked for me, but my roomates weren't very happy.

Re: 6am.. alarm woes

I don't know if I dare say- but I find being retired truly helps. Alarm goes at 8, and my cup of tea arrives about 8.15- and I drink it about 8.22 when it is just perfect temp, then turn over and have last little half snooze and stretch- then get up for my shower about 8.30 to 8.45ish... ahhhhhhhh bliss

I have a business meeting at 8am about 5 times a year down in the Valley- absolute torture especially in winter.

Just put the alarm far enough away that you have to get up to stop it.
That's what I do, have it halfway to be bedroom door so either I keep stumbling zombie like to the kettle or have to make a U-turn, which is pretty impossible pre-caffine. Of course that is only M-F, on t'weekends my darling daughter wakes me at 6am.

We had one for our son which has a sort of propeller blade thing that flies across the room when the alarm goes off. It only stops when you get up and retrieve the thing and put it back in place.
Maybe something like that would work?
I'm always against cruelty to animals and feel a bit sorry for your son, why not get him this el cheapo sunrise clock from aldi, they are selling it as of today and use the helicopter one as the 'final warning' type alarm

i aught to out my hidden agenda here, there is only one review on the net i could find and its not glowing. I wonder if its acceptable, a review from your hard to wake up son might be helpful.

its a third of the price of the philips one.

They're great, but you might still need a proper alarm as a back up (I always did).

A more effective alternative is children - but you have to place your order a few months in advance.
Though I think this is a green option, it will last for 10 years, I dont think I'll be breeding myself an alarm clock.
