GPS Car Navigation Devices Thread

Hello!

Normally I get by with Google Maps or (Apple) Maps, but sometimes in some less transited roads such as the ones that are used to go inside the mountains (e.g. to reach hiking trails) these apps tend to misbehave.

In your opinion what would be the best suited car GPS device (brand/model) to go all merry-round Switzerland?

Paper maps are an option I've considered...

Thank you for your feedback!

Re: GPS Car Navigation Devices Thread

For in-car navigation I use Sygic for Android - it is really cheap and user friendly nowadays and, if you have 5" screen, very informative. For Hiking I use ViewRanger with SwissTopo maps

EDIT: once you buy a mapset in Sygic, all subsequent updates are free for a lifetime of the product.

For me Garmin is the best, because your maps automaticly update every year for free. In others you have to pay to update.

Re: GPS Car Navigation Devices Thread

My Windows phone came pre-installed with Here Drive (Nokia app.).
I now use this exclusively (when required) resulting in my old GPS becoming a redundant dust magnet.

So far, it's functioned without problems, inaccuracies or dropouts in both CH and UK.

'Live' maps can be downloaded and used offline saving data/battery usage.
Maps are updated for free as and when required.

I have four different Here navigation apps., but the best bits seem to be all incorporated in one free app. from App Store for IOS (filter iPhone Only if using iPad).
I am unable to confirm if it is available for Android.

I use a generic windscreen phone holder and USB cable for power.
