How to sell a car in CH?

Hi Folks, it's rather the first post for me here even if I've been following the site for a while. I am asking you advice on how to sell a car in CH. I have seen one post from some years ago and hope some of you may have had recent experiences. Autoscout asks for 100 CHF every month. I was ready to wait a couple of months since the market is pretty slow, but I realize that this can cost a fortune! Do you know any other good (free) platform to suggest? And any other experience you may share? Thanks!!!

ricardo, announcement websites like tutti.ch, anibis, your local news portal, geneva-specific web portals, facebook groups.
also put a big ad behind the windshield maybe, lot of people then park it in an overtly visible way.
If it's a premium german car you can see what the local ex-yugoslavian exporter offers.

Re: How to sell a car in CH?

Thank you all! AutoRicardo seems to be a great idea as well. My car is an Alfa Romeo Giulietta, not easy to sell like any of the German cars but still with some potential...

Re: How to sell a car in CH?

Frankly Frank, you are one out of a rat pack. Do you actually read what other asks or do you just sing your advice like a drunken gambler in Vegas?

@maott: The lower the price the faster it is gone.
To get an evaluation of the price you can use your own research or get an evaluation by Eurotax http://b2b.eurotaxglass.ch/D/fzbewertung/index.php
Cost is CHF 11. You will get two values: a sell value (the price you can expect when you sell to a garage) and a buy value (the price you would pay if you buy from a garage). The private-to-private price is somewhere in the middle. Although many private individuals on Autoscout try to sell it for the upper value which is just plain bonkers. The upper value is for a shiny polished, clean car, and least a few days of guarantee and not "Ab Platz" as a private sale is.

Re: How to sell a car in CH?

It also depends on what car you are trying to sell and how much you will lose getting a dealer (or exporter) to buy it from you.

100chf per month is nothing if you are selling a 150k car but then if you have a 150k car you should be friendly with your local dealer who may help.

The middle ground is where it can hurt - 10-20k cars that take 6mths to sell cost 600chf - which eats into any profit.

Which comes back to what SITU said - its about price. Put it on AS cheap for the spec/model/year and it will sell quickly.

The other option is to post 3 more useful posts on here - then put it up for sale for 10k more than you want and then bitch when people rip your advert to pieces.

Re: How to sell a car in CH?

I totally agree with you dodgyken... In my case the eurotax gives me a 14k value and I'm selling for 10.5k, which I believe is a great deal for anybody. The point is that 6-8 months of autoscout make nearly wonder if a dealer would be a better option. I like the last idea of putting up a crazy price and start bitching around :-)

Re: How to sell a car in CH?

Oh finally someone who says something positive about Giulietta!!! All the potential buyers I've got so far they were saying this is a terrible car, hence max 5k haha... I'm selling because we need a bigger one to accommodate a baby, a stroller, and stuff. But i agree - would never sell it otherwise. Super low fuel use, it's really great!

Re: How to sell a car in CH?

I understand you, i was told also that is Giulietta terrible car. But i love it, it doesnt spend much, and even if something brokes its not that expensive. I never had any major problems with her. I bought it 2 years ago, and it still drives like when i got her. Its worth every peny i gave for her. Its because people dont know anything expect ww, audi, bmw, mercedes and all that.

Good, so at least we won't need to go through the tragedy of you trying to sell it here

If you're looking to get 10k and the estimated value is about 14k, then a dealer might give you that price with little hassle.

Try one or too, or if you're getting your next one from one, talk to them about a possible exchange. If that 14k is a good estimate, then you 10.5k asking price should anyway move it fast in Autoscout, so you wouldn't worry too much about the add costs.

Re: How to sell a car in CH?

In garage they would give you 5000 chf. Its nothing. My friend bought audi a4 sport line 2008 automatic 300 or something kw its has 170000 km now, he paid 35000 fr at the time. In garage they offered him 5000 chf now.

When was that? 2008? Did he drive the large chunk of the km? Most likely, the value drops like that. Anyway, the dealers need to buffer for having a car in stock for a long time (it happens often).

Re: How to sell a car in CH?

On a related note, does anyone know how best to find a private sale? I usually see a difference of more than 25% on the dealer margins.

But given that the dealer does a service, fresh MFK, all the paperwork and also is ready to hold the car in their garage for 2-3 months at least- it seems in many cases (to many people, at least) a fair price to pay. And the warranty on top is also to be amortized from this commission.

However, if someone prefers to buy from a private sale, its hard to find a seller. All the known sites (car4you, autoscout, ricardo auto, etc.) are littered with dealer ads and it is hard to filter by seller type. And, of course, EF sales offers are usually grossly overpriced.

Any suggestions for doing this better? I am assuming a direct handshake deal between buyer and seller with possible servicing, MFK can hugely benefit both parties.
