I found a lost baby.....calf!

It's strange how our mind works... Yesterday morning, as I washed dishes and peered out the window into the neighbors garden, I saw something unusual; a baby cow. ( calf)

At first, I couldn't believe my eyes, so I moved to another window to get a closer look. Indeed, it was a small calf. So, I sent a message to the lady and politely tried to ask, in Portuguese, if she knew she had a baby calf in her garden. If she did, I hoped to ascertain why? She responded with " I don't understand what you are saying", so I switched to German and tried again. This time, no response.

At this point, my well learned Swiss etiquette kicked in and I thought to keep my mouth shut and let her deal with her baby calf. Anyway, I needed to go to work, so I decided it must be a birthday petting zoo for her little girl, or something explainable.

Since it was dark when I came home last night I did not see across the way until this morning. I was shocked to see the poor little creature again, and though I needed to leave for work, I searched for the husband's number and phoned him. Did he know there was a baby calf in his garden? I could see lights and people in the house. But, NO, he and wife were out of the country and knew nothing of this!

Oh boy, the farmer was glad to find his missing calf! He was gone for FOUR days! I just wish I had not been so polite yesterday!

At least, there is a happy end and mother cow and calf are re-united.

Re: I found a lost baby.....calf!

That's wonderful! Did you take any pictures?

Thanks for reuniting the (too curious and thus exploring different regions of CH, or the grass in your neighbor's garden was tasty?) calf with his farmer.

Thank goodness all is now well. The question is how did he/she stray from momma's side in the first place? And the other question: did your neighbours know of the people partying it up in their property?

Re: I found a lost baby.....calf!

I did take photos but guess my neighbor may not like for them to be published.

I can hardly think about it as I feel so guilty to have not been persistent yesterday! Oh dear....

Now to focus on the positive....

Re: I found a lost baby.....calf!

No idea how the little one strayed away , as the nearest farm is about 1.5 kilometers away, through curvy roads, a train line and neighbors with single houses. The farmer was searching through the small forests near him.

The children and a babysitter were at home, but never went to this side of the house....

No, a true happy ending to the story would be it ending up on my grill!

Yumm, testina di vitello!

Meanwhile, ate the feet on Sunday on Sapnish Bodega in Niederdorf.

Through the police. He apparently had reported his herd's missing offspring.

Ewww. I'm sure you found it delicious, but I think it sounds not so delicious.

My wife is the veal-head fan, but even I enjoyed the gelatinous feet!

Re: I found a lost baby.....calf!

The most concerning part of the story is how I saw without seeing! Of course, NO ONE would have a baby calf in the garden, unless they are farmers or a daughter of a cowboy ( me )

Why in the world did I hesitate, hold back from getting involved or even think one second about privacy? That little one needed his mother ASAP and I was rationalizing all kinds of silly excuses.

Generally, I see people in pain, despair, destitude, accidents about to happen, etc, etc....BUT this whole thing about the maintaining borders, left me paralyzed.

THIS is concerning and thought provoking . Perhaps, one can become numb.

Not generally my nature. Ask my patients. I see beyond the teeth...

Not this time. Well, not as soon as I would have desired...

Nice story but I have to ask, have your boys been making cookies again?
