Car show Zürich

I was at the car show in Zürich yesterday. It get worse every year. Nothing of real interest there except for the Lotus.

Re: Car show Zürich

Disagree. I was also there last night with a certain forum member who gives a lot of advice about cars. We were both shocked to be quite taken by the new Civic Type-R. It's also great value for money starting at 36k for a 310ps hot hatch with an astonishing level of standard equipment.

The new McLaren 570S was also there and looked surprisingly good. I think I prefer the design to the big brothers. We were also a big fan of the shade of red on the Ferrari 458 Spider. It looked like it was from an 80s F1 car.

Re: Car show Zürich

It has gone downhill from a few years ago - but there were some stand out cars.

1) Morgan Aeromax - it may be 6 years old but it still looked superb on the stand.
2) Ferrari LaFerrari
3) AC Cobra and Emil Frey GT3 Jaguar
4) Ferrari 488 Spider in late 80s F1 red
5) The name of the importer of Caterham - Kumschick
6) McLaren 570 - looked really dainty in the flesh - but really rather good in the McLaren Orange
7) Bentley Bentagay (or whatever it is called) - scary just how "Dubai" it was
8) Closing the doors on the Peugeot 1008 didn't cause any trim to fall off
9) Jag XE feels really nice in the front - stupidly cramped in the back
10) Disco remains the best feeling vehicle. The Sport felt low rent inside
11) Honda Type-R is an absolute bargain - fully specced for here 46k vs 36k in the UK - with amazing seats
12) Alpina B5 50edition looked epically cool
13) Tesla has very big boot but the rear seats looked low rent
14) Volvo still makes stylish looking fast estates with nice seats
15) Opel have found the need to hide their cars in custard
16) Cadillac's super saloons still feel too American inside

We did the whole thing in a little over 90mins (including dumping out stuff on one of the stands and chatting to friends).

I didn't even go up to lvl 7 - which is usually Seat/Audi/VW/Skoda - did they have the smoke machines on??

EDIT:
I had free tickets so I didn't feel ripped off. The number of "trade" stands has reduced.

Nope - I got my usual pair from one manufacturer - then a couple from people I know. I was surprised I didn't get more - so no spares.

How difficult is it to find a picture of the actual car and not an Aero 8 S1??

Not very reliable though, this Aero 8's rear axle fell off.

Re: Car show Zürich

Will be heading there tomorrow to check it out. Wasn't expecting much for 10CHF to be honest

Seems like there is some sort of racing simulator contest tomorrow afternoon? Could be interesting..

However I'm quite disappointed there is no McLaren P1 or Porsche 918. Also thought there would be a Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio..

The Alfa is there. It's on a raised plinth, so you can't go and poke and prod it. As always with Alfas look good vs its class competitors.

The stands seem to mainly be put on by local dealers rather than the manufacturers, which is why there isn't a P1 or 918 there. They don't have any to sell. The LaFerrari is actually at a customisers stand rather than at the Ferrari (Foitek of Urdorf) stand.

They raised the Porsche by 1
(There is a 919 there)

There was Red Bull F1 with spiked rear tyres too.

EDIT:
For 10 chf, and if you are looking for a new car, then it is good way to spend a few hours - you should be able to clamber over and in most of the new offerings - and it is probably the easiest way to compare an i40, Accord and Mondeo back to back. All the manufacturers are there and most are covered by fairly local dealers.

Re: Car show Zürich

I went on Thursday. Fr.12.00 AHV. So I don't know how you only paid fr.10.00. Normal price Fr.19.00. Had my only Bratwürst of the year on the way out.

For motor fans: I'm probably the only person on EF who 'knew' Colin Chapman of Lotus. I lived in Hornsey in North London just near to the small garage he had. We often stopped on our bikes to watch what was going on. The front was open - at least in Summer. This must have been about 1951. It was a tinpot little place. If I remember rigfhtly it was underneath a railway arch just off Turnpike Lane.
