Child neglect in Canton SZ

Hi,

i have observed child abuse in Lachen and I need help where to go to.

A person has left their 3 yr old home alone and thinks its normal (sleeping).

They have also made passive aggressive remarks about abuse.

Who can i turn to, is there a child welfare in Lachen/Paffikon I can go to?

What do you mean by passive aggressive remarks?

And how long did he leave the kid alone?

I agree. Phone them. They'd surely rather investigate and find nothing than the horrible possibility of the other way around.

People don't ruin that family's life. Over sensitive people are ruining everything in this world.

I have a friend who has a 2.5 year old girl. This little girl sits and plays with toys and ipads while we drink coffee and talk about our past life and memoirs for hours. Being alone does not mean danger. You don't really need to hold your baby 24/7 to be a good parent. If you find yourself in that one difficult situation, it is ok to leave a a 3 year old alone for upto an 1 hour an a very safe room.

Perhaps it would be wiser to try to talk to the parents first.
A reconnaissance mission if you will.

What about leaving the house and being 30KM away for 1hr, while the child sleeps?

I mean is this normal?

Maybe i should mind my business when I hear potential threats and a parent leaving the house and returning after 1hr with no child in the rear seat.

Just sit down, clear your mind and think objectively. Just what possible scenario would result in the 3 year-old's DEATH within that 1 hour he/she was left alone? Does the stove all the sudden decide to blow up before the parents get back? will a bird sneak through the chimney to pluck the sleeping child eyes out?

I have seen furious and jealous neighbors trying to find a reason to bad-mouth each other, just keep calm

No its not normal to leave a 3 year old home alone. God forbid there is a fire, the child would have no chance of escaping, and its absolutely ludicrous to argue about the probabilities of such a scenario.

I think the OP is right to be concerned.

Re: Child abuse in Canton SZ

You seem pretty sure the child was home alone. Why? Did the parents tell you that's what happened?

They could have hired a babysitter (people do that, you know) or asked a neighbor to listen in on the baby monitor (people do that sometimes too.)

At 3 you can't leave them alone, it'd far too young.

Somehow... there is more to this story, isn't there?

How is it that you have time to wonder about someone's else life when you have mentioned on this forum that you have a very busy working life... meeting, travels, bosses demands, etc and dealing with a depressed wife and a young child, who is probably close to 3 years old... the age of the child you are concerned about.

Is it your child that you are worried about???

Perhaps this person needs help and support. The family support office in your local community would be a good place to start.

Perhaps we could also change the thread title.

I'd agree leaving a 3 year old at home alone for an hour is child neglect, but child abuse is a very different thing.

Re: Child abuse in Canton SZ

However high you think your moral high ground is, you will never be thanked for raising this.

If you really think it is your social and moral duty to take action and report it, then you best be sure you have plenty of evidence and grounds to do so. Not "I think this is happening", or "I heard that this occurred...", or "someone else told me that...". Making a complaint to authorities will have consequences for the family whatever the input and output, so choose your moves very carefully.

By the sounds of it, you know enough about the household to know their comings and goings, then go speak to them and find out more before you start something you cannot stop. Either way prepare yourself for fallout.

Before you ask, yes, I have a child and I shudder at the thought of something terrible happening to him. I'm not condoning child abuse, or neglect, allowing them to come into blatant dangers, but things are not always as they seem to anyone else unless you were there, you saw it ALL happen and know the full context in what was said and done.

Tom, Uno; just to be clear. You don't think a three year old being left alone inside is a problem? Or a police matter? I'd be very surprised if it is legal.

What would you do? Just leave it and hope for the best?
