Freezer shopping in Germany

I've dug around on this forum and only found old post with not much information. I'm looking to buy a stand up freezer for my cellar. I'm certain it will be cheaper in Germany. Has anyone purchased a freezer for delivery in switzerland recently that they can recommend? Both store and freezer. I live in Zurich area.

Have a look on Toppreise.ch

You may find there's not much difference between the price in German and here even if you factor in http://www.toppreise.ch/index.php?se...%FChlschrankAT savings and take transport costs into account.

Some companies here such as microspot.ch give free delivery.

In general electrical goods are quite reasonably priced in Switzerland compared with the neighbours, particularly once you take into account transport, customs and changing plugs. Remember VAT in Switzerland is only at 8%. It's 2 to 3 times that in most of the neighbours.

Re: Freezer shopping in Germany

Right now the exchange rate has stabilized so not that much difference.

Just a point about the delivery costs though - mine was delivered from Germany for much less than what FUST quoted me.

But you don't pay the VAT in Germany as you will be exporting the goods.

I am amazed that this still needs to be discussed: Even if the freezer costs the SAME in the shop in DE and CH is it usually cheaper to buy it in Germany as the tax savings alone will make up for more than the transport costs and most shops in the border region are taking care of all the importing and paper work for you... and most also offer cheap or free delivery as they depend on their Swiss customers.

Re: Freezer shopping in Germany

ok, found the place I went to now also has sort of an online shop. I bought a liebherr freezer some years ago and it's great, so something similar is around EUR679. Takeaway german tax, add Swiss tax means a savings of around 10% (will be all done for you by the shop). They used to deliver to Zurich area for EUR30, and other areas was EUR40 or 50, can't remember exactly, so all in it would cost around Fr.720, roughly. Which is a savings of around Fr.120 over Nettoshop.

The guarantee is Eurowide, so no problems there.

However, from time to time, FUST or MElectronic for example will have a sale and have good prices... so if you are not in a rush you can also buy from Switzerland. But if you are waiting for a sale, then you could also wait for a sale from the shop I linked (which I did and saved a few hundred Fr....)

If you find it on sale in Switzerland it is not necessarily cheaper in Germany.
In Germany I would look at Hettler in Waldshut. You need to go in person. Get a complete price including delivery. You will not pay 19% MWST but you will pay 8% plus there will be a fee for them doing the customs clearance for you. Do not forget that it will have a German plug. You may also want to ask about service and warranty in Switzerland.

I have used this firm before. Their prices are very competitive.

Re: Freezer shopping in Germany

I agree with axman. We just bought a freezer from microspot via Toppreise. Every time I look at electronics in Germany, they are more expensive than Switzerland, especially with customs and shipping sometimes.

Microspot delivered the freezer for free and even put it in the lift and got it into my flat for me, no additional cost.

There is a big difference between white goods (freezers ezc) and electronics (computers etc).... The former are cheaper in Europe whilst the latter are cheaper in Swizerland.

Huh? What I was trying to say is that the price may not be too different, but it is not true that customs and shipping will make it more expensive, as in fact it is cheaper (you save around 10% in tax) and the delivery is generally cheaper from Germany, believe it or not (unless the Swiss one is free delivery). But like Mrs Doolittle, I also said that if you find it on sale in Switzerland, it could be cheaper than in Germany. The example I mentioned above shows a savings of around Fr.100 for a Freezer which costs below Fr.1000. You can save more on a more expensive freezer, but then it is up to you if it is worth the effort.

by they way, for Hettler in Waldshut, you can use the link I posted earlier and call them up. No need to go there.
