Where to pay SBB fine?

Hello,

I was too unfortunate on my forgetfulness Yesterday my husband took our kid to krippe and gave me ticket. I put my ticket and phone on the table. But when I went to take our kid back from krippe,I only grabbed my phone.

As a result I could not show ticket to checker and had fine of 75 F Can I pay it going to any SBB office like HB? I do not want to pay it online because my husband will be so hurt by my forgetfulness.

We are foreigner and always very careful on swiss law. He'll not be angry but will be very very sad like me. I'm so depressed

Re: Where to pay SBB fine?

Didn't you get a form telling you how to pay the fine?

If you had a valid ticket that you left at home, but just could not show it (eg a monthly pass) you can try to take it to the SBB, or the city's public transport office depending on who gave you the fine, show it to them and maybe they'll reduce the fine.

Re: Where to pay SBB fine?

Take your rail ticket together with the ticket for the fine, to any SBB station with a person manning it.

Maybe take your Swiss permit card. You have several days before you must pay the fine.

If you had already bought a ticket, but forgot it, you will only pay a reduced administration charge (Maybe Sfr 10,-- ??), and not the full fine.

Re: Where to pay SBB fine?

The rules depend on what type of ticket you forgot. Our experience has been that a forgotten "Mehrfahrkarten" ticket means you have to pay the full fine, if it is a monthly or yearly ticket then the administration charge applies.

Re: Where to pay SBB fine?

I have 9 UHR pass but does not cover Horgen zone. So we buy 6 Day pass (local netz) and punch every time we take our kid to krippe.

In the morning my husband punched but in the afternoon I could not show that ticket.

In fact, the checker got down from the bus and gossiping in front of our house after making fine. though I was fined, I took my ticket from home and show him. But I was really unlucky

Can I just go to any SBB office and pay the fine by debot card/cash like coop or migros?

Yes. It looks like you have to pay the full amount of the fine.

Who gave you the fine? SBB or the local public transport company?

Maybe a wee bit unfortunate. You might have been able to convince him that as the ticket was at home and presumably your husband wasn't, the multiple day pass stamped in the morning was 'valid' even if you couldn't show it at the time. It isn't the same thing as a Mehrfahrkarte (multiple journey ticket) which has to be stamped each time you travel.

Re: Where to pay SBB fine?

Once the fine has been issued, the ticket inspector probably can't cancel it.

Take the ticket to the relevant office, show them and you might be able to get the fine cancelled with only an admin fee to pay.

Re: Where to pay SBB fine?

If you have sbb pass with photo id then you can get the refund and pay only 5 chf. If no photo then full fine.
They will send you pink slip which you can pay in post office. Recently this happened to me:-)

Re: Where to pay SBB fine?

Okay, it's been asked in a roundabout way, but I'll ask straight out -

What is the exact wording on the fine? If you don't understand the German just type it here for us and we can see if you will likely be stuck with the entire fine or just an admin fee.

I recently was checked on a tram in Bern and had forgotten my halbtax and monthly ticket at the office. The fine (and the inspector who gave it to me) clearly stated I had X number of days to show up at the SBB office in order to just pay an admin fee. I think the time limit was 7 days.

All I had to do was show the fine, my halbtax and the valid ticket and I paid 5 Francs. The guys were really understanding, as apparently this happens a lot. They said they know it's inconvenient, but inspectors have to issue fines because everyone says they "forgot" their ticket even if they never had one.

I'm not sure how that would work with a multiple-journey ticket, as that needs to be stamped before you get on the bus/tram/train. Was your ticket stamped and still valid for the time period, but you just forgot it?

Ya, my ticket was stamped in 8.17am and it was a day pass. But I could not show it in 2.12pm of that day.

Okay, then it really should be as simple as going to the SBB office with your fine, your ticket, and your money, and paying a small admin fee. But make sure you do it in the timeframe specified on the fine - probably one week.

I don't know if you can pay by debit card. I just paid cash for the 5 Francs admin fee, and I asked for a receipt so I'd have proof of paying on time.

I don't think this will work.

If the guy didn't accept her explanation then, I doubt they will accept it at the office. The same explanation with less proof - from the point of view of the office, someone else could have been using the ticket at the time.

Oy, I didn't think of that! Guess the best she can do is try.

Re: Where to pay SBB fine?

I also think you have to pay the full fine unless you can show a valid ticket with your name on it for the time when you were checked.
But sometimes the Swiss people can be exceptionally flexible, who knows ;-)
