Printer ink

I brought my printer from the US, forgetting that ink cartridges are region coded. Now that my ink has run out, I'm wondering if it's possible to buy just the ink for the printer cartridges or will I be forced to buy another printer?

Re: Printer ink

Last time I needed ink for my printer I went to ebay and bought a set of 4 50g bottles of ink and 4 hypodermics to suck up the ink and squirt it into the ink cartridges without removing the cartridges from the printer.

The whole lot cost 10 euros; I had it sent to a parcel shop in Germany because the delivery cost to Switzerland was too high.

The supplier was http://www.ebay.ch/itm/121603730469?...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I have no connection with this supplier but for 10 euros what can you lose?

Original cartridges cost over CHF 100,00

Re: Printer ink

Whether you can refill the cartridges also depends on where the printhead is located. With some brands there is an electronic chip for communicating with the printer. Failure to reset this chip after refilling the reservoir means that the cartridge will still be read as empty by the printer and therefore useless.

My cartridges have a chip that reports them as empty but the printer still prints.

Re: Printer ink

(I suspect) They might be region coded for the purpose of managing supply chain distribution to retailers etc, and for managing cartel pricing in regions, but I would be very surprised if a european cartridge did not work. Have you ever heard of a cartridge actually not working due to region code, or is it a hunch?

Do you mean a Canon Pixma MP830 ? A Google search for the one you specified brings only that one back.
