advice on living in Adliswil (ZH)

Hi all,

We are making an offer on a house in Adliswil , closer to the Sihlau train station (2-3 min walk). Since we live in CH for some time it was easy to find out answers to all questions about tax, public train connections, restaurants, we did the walk around to explore the area ...etc

The questions that we find hard to answer are :

1) Public Schools in that area ? Are they any good ? any tips or experience anyone here can share?

2) Sunshine ? We currently live in Richterswil, is Adliswil a big difference from the the silver coast in terms of sunshine?

3) People living in that area, we are a family that are more into integrating and being part of the local culture where we live. Is Adliswil too international ? Would we feel like we live in an international bubble? I know Swiss Re is there and the International school and it worries me that perhaps its this society of people coming for 2-3 years max leaving and new people coming in and so on ! ?? any comments ? Sense of community? Gemeide organized events?

4) employees who work at the gemeinde?

5) Anything on Adliswil we should know ?

Might be a bit late for you but from my view

3) I don't think it's too international but have no basis for comparison. Only lived in Adliswil so far. Hear plenty of Schwiizer Deutsch around the town but there would be a lot of Swiss Re people living in Adliswil currently.

There are some Geminde organised events .. outdoor movies in the summer, there's a small weekly market on the main square, the usual Xmas things.

Re: advice on living in Adliswil (ZH)

We live along the river in Adliswil and it has it's own micro-climate. The sun will depend on how far your house is up the valley/hill... quite often the fog clears in the lower town of Adliswil faster than it does along lake Zurich. Also, in the summer the river provides a cool breeze which is quite different to say, Wollishofen... at night we open the windows and can hear the river flowing and the cool air moves even on the hottest of days.

The main shopping are in Adliswil is excellent - I rarely need to go into Zurich to shop - they renovated the Denner and the Coop before Christmas so they are much improved, and there is a little 'Asian' Store at Krone (Krone Lädeli) which sells Indian/Sri Lankan groceries...

School wise, it is fairly diverse, but sometimes the kids aren't what they appear - there is the Hindu temple at Sihlau so you will see the Hindu families coming to worship regularly, but some of the 'Indian' looking kids may be second or third generation Swiss...

In some ways, diversity works better - the schools are adapted to diversity and the teachers work there because they enjoy the challenge - being the only non-Swiss kid in a school can be tougher...
