Where to buy Christmas Trees

Anyone know where you can buy Christmas Trees in Zurich that does not require having a car?

Are you talking about real trees or fake trees. And no car? You mean then the "Charlie Brown type Xmas tree"?

I know Jumbo carries both fake and real ones (there is a Jumbo near the Abaton movie theatre - Escher Wyss platz) and Migros and Coop do so also but not at all their stores.

Fake ones you can get at any department store downtown in all different sizes.

Re: Christmas Trees

If you want a real one, there was an advert in the tram about a place in Albisguetli (end of tram no 13) and it said that they will deliver it to you.

Re: Christmas Trees

Heya

And what about fake ones? I want a good quality fake tree that is going to last for decades like my parents one has....

I looked last year in Jumbo but they always seemed to be a bit thin and sparse... maybe im being fussy...

Any tips welcome.

Thanks

I bought our fake tree in Globus back in 1997, it is still going strong.

Re: Christmas Trees

Bah! Fake trees. My mother (who lives in Oregon, land of the Douglas Fir, an ideal Christmas tree that people spend hundreds of dollars on to get shipped across the country) decided she didn't like the hastle of a real tree. It violates every part of my Christmas sensibilities. I've started teasing her that the reason I didn't come home for Christmas last year and am not this year is because of the fake tree. (although it really has nothing to do with it)

Re: Christmas Trees

Chem godess, that is a beautiful tree, but the needles dropping drive me to distraction. The last time we had one (way back in 1999), I had to pay the council in England to take it away and it was nowhere as big as that baby.
I was a bit worried about bringing our aged artificial one with us seeing as all I read about Switzerland emphasised the 'naturalness' of the country. It is in our cellar and our girl is already attempting to bribe me to get it out and up. Not a chance, it goes up on 24th and if I had my way would come down again on boxing day. I am a misery guts. Same with cards, I can't stand them all over the place so they go into a pile

Gosh, I'd be tempted to suggest to hold off this conversation till December, but oh well. I'd best join in...

Anyway - much as I'd love to get a real tree (or even a fake one, for that matter) here, I doubt there'd be much point. Plus, Zürich being Zürich, how much would one expect to pay for a (real) tree?

Re: Christmas Trees

I know, I know that's the same thing my mom says. Although this is coming from a woman who makes her house look like a shrine to Christmas (very tastefully though) And where we live, they have free christmas tree pick up.

I just always loved coming home to a house all lit up with Christmas lights and walking in and smelling that lovely lovely fresh tree scent. And I have so many memories of us all going out on the weekend and cutting down our own tree from a tree farm.

pressed the thanks instead of the quote button - oh well! at least it wasn't a groan

I wanted to say you can get a real tree from Migros for probably about CHF 25.00 upwards. They are normally imported, though. We normally buy one from a local dealer, who brings them to Klus-Park for a week in December. They are born and bred Swiss trees and a reasonable-sized Swiss Nordmann (that's the shiny, thick needles that don't shed so quickly), approx. 1.5m, costs around CHF 80.00.

A good deal, seeing as we hardly ever spend money during the year on cut flowers and bouquets.

Re: Christmas Trees

I picked up this little guy from a lot off the bahnhostrasse last year. I'd been looking for a decent affordable fake tree in the dept stores all afternoon when I passed a man on the street hissing "tannenbaum, tannenbaum" at passersby.

where-buy-christmas-trees-ohtanenbaum2006pti.jpg

Easily carried him in my arms, shrink wrapped by the lumberjack who sold him to me, and onto a tram. 15 CHF. I think the tree was the only piece of furniture we had then!

Just for clarification, it was the tree that you carried shrink-wrapped in your arms ?

You could always spend your time looking for one..... As an aside, I worked with a guy whose aunt did the soprano on this song.
