Recall: Do you have a Whirlpool tumble dryer?

Been following this as the recall happened whilst I was still in the UK and I have an Indesit tumble dryer. I'm posting it because there have been ads for this item on the forum, and some ex-pats might not be aware on the recall.

Quote:
More action is needed to recall Whirlpool's fire-risk tumble dryers before someone dies, according to a leading Trading Standards officer.
Last November Whirlpool - the owner of the Hotpoint, Indesit and Creda brands - said the dryers could be dangerous as they allow lint to build up against the heating element.
The company has contacted more than three million customers offering repairs or money off a replacement.
But some owners face an 11-month wait.

Has anyone seen this recall reported in the Swiss media? Apparently, the models affected have been sold across Europe.

Re: Recall: Do you have a Whirlpool tumble dryer?

On BBC TV they say there are 5 million suspect drying machines in use, brands are Whirlpool, Indesit, Creda.

Thousands of technicians are at work, but they are taking maybe a year to visit every machine.

In the meantime, switch the machine off and unplug it when not in use! Clean the fluff filter after use every cycle, every time! Do not operate the machine without being near it yourself, switch off and disconnect the machine as soon as smoke starts to come from the machine!

The problem is happening because fine fluff is getting past the filter, and settling on the heater, where it may catch fire.

Do not leave the machine running and unattended!

Re: Recall: Do you have a Whirlpool tumble dryer?

Their customer service is utter shite, though.

My mum has one of the models (in the UK) and received a letter to get in touch with them so she called the helpline and they said they would send an email . That was 8 months ago!

She's been calling them on a weekly basis, sometimes more often, and they say they have a backlog to get through.

I said she should call them and tell them there's a weird smell coming from it and some wisps of smoke and see if they act any quicker.

Being from the generation she is, she has switched it off, unplugged it and cleaned out every nook and cranny and basically not touched it for these 8 months.
