I think my post was concise. I left the United States to seek asylum. I am working with my embassy right now to process some paperwork and out of money and ideas. I need to find a place where I can wait that is safe for my paperwork to pass through. The sidewalk is not safe. Someone could hurt me or try to take advantage of me.

I am asking for some help coming up with ideas. I thought maybe a tent...but camping season doesn't officially start until April 1 and I could get in trouble.
If you were even slightly smart with some basic social awareness and had given clear background to your situation and acted in a dignified and open manner then you would likely already have an offer of a tent or a room by now from some of the more generous people on this board.

Clickbait title? Vague and conflicting story? Asking for things? Refusing to provide more concrete detail?

Yup, scammer.
I'm also wary. But occasionally life is complicated, and people often don't really understand their own situation and ending up giving conflicting details. They have a set of "facts" that don't reflect reality.

I'll give it one last try.

Why did you not take care of things before now, so that you wouldn't end up in this situation (without a home) in the first place?
Why are you seeking asylum?
Why didn't you contact the Swiss authorities immediately upon landing so that they would help you? If you did contact the Swiss authorities (which you have to at any rate, to seek asylum), why don't you go THERE (after all you want to stay IN Switzerland) rather than to the US embassy (as you want to stay OUT of the US) to get help?

If you haven't managed to get to the Swiss authorities to get help until now (which I doubt or you wouldn't be here legally), why don't you at least go to the Swiss authorities NOW to get help, rather than seeking help on the EF?

Re: OMFG worst 2 days EVER!

I like to help people out and immediately started to think of how I could in this situation. But then as more people asked questions (that went unanswered), I reconsidered my potential offer of help.

The below, as well as a few other questions that have been asked, would be helpful if answered.

Quote:
View Post

a) why you are seeking asylum and especially here of all places
b) why you didn't claim asylum the minute you landed at the airport
c) why you expect the US to do anything for someone who's claiming asylum in another country
d) if you left the US two years ago to claim asylum where have you been for most of that time? Because it hasn't been here according to your first post back in February. Then you said you'd be here for at least 3 months, not that you've been here for 2 years. So is this a case of failed asylum seeking elsewhere and now you're trying it on in Switzerland?

Basel is a safe city, in a safe country. I would be more worried about keeping warm at night then any sort of street harassment.

Come on. Made a happy post initially about being here for 3 months and wanting coffee buddies that she did not even once more reply to? Now posted story about seeking asylum from USA that doesn't make any sense? Complete refusal to provide more relevant detaisl despite having no logical reason to not do o in order to air her plight?

This thread is a complete waste of time.

Longbyt gave you the answer back in post #16. Go to the Basel Sozialhilfe 'Notschlafstelle' for folks who find themselves homeless. The website says there is a separate dormintory for women. Here, I'll even give you the direct link in case you don't read enough German to click through:

http://www.sozialhilfe.bs.ch/notwohn...lafstelle.html

There is a fee per night.

(Assuming any of this is true... )

Re: OMFG worst 2 days EVER!

OP is a she?

Ah well. Doesn't quite matter. This is pretty much a lost cause. So we're supposed to believe that a US citizen that apparently lived in the US until recently took a chilled flight to Switzerland, casually walked off the plane, planned to stay "at least three months" as a tourist, rented an apartment (how exactly if here as a tourist or - better yet - "asylum seeker"?), then ran out of money a few weeks later, suddenly claimed to have asked for asylum, yet asks the US government to "provide some assistance because he/she is a US citizen and they have obligations"? This "story" is unbelievable from every angle. Also I still can't think of any reason why a US citizen would ever get asylum really anywhere in the world. I mean if Syrian war refugees get turned down...

Whatever. If OP is indeed without shelter, tips have been given about where to go. After that, maybe a somewhat coherent story would help to get any further help, if any is indeed needed.

If it's true then good luck, we can all find ourselves in this situation.
What's important is not what happens to you but how you deal with it.

If you need help, then let us know!

[On the assumption this isn't a troll] Maybe OP is running away from problems or people in the US (related to the human rights abuse) and feels it is too risky to return there? She may have forgotten about applying for asylum until the accommodation issue came up?

If your predicament is genuine, OP, I hope you will find a solution soon. I don't know if anyone has suggested this yet, but you could also try http://www.salvationarmy.ch/what-we-do/

After having read the whole thread I'm inclined to think that the OP came here for 'love', moved in with her boyfriend ( or girlfriend) and things didn't work out so she's got nowhere to stay now.
Not sure how the claiming asylum bit fits in though if she's a US citizen unless she comes from a very religious family and she's scared to go back to them now or she was abused by them there and fled here to get away from them.

Re: OMFG worst 2 days EVER!

Anyway you could have said you were a woman, it's much easier, look for women shelters and even if your story doesn't involve domestic abuse i doubt they would tell you to sleep in the streets. If you were living with a boyfriend you might still claim that he threw you out and you don't have money for the airplane they can accomodate you while you sort things out i guess? Happens to foreign women.

America is a big country, lots of stories of abuse and people just moving cities and starting a new life out of nothing.

No man who is not a complete and utter sociopath (funnily enough, not all men are) would allow her to sleep rough on the streets. While not impossible, it is a highly unlikely scenario.

Well, you certainly have lots of ideas. I hope they remain on the thread so as to provide a ressource to others who may one day be in need.

Camping season, seriously? April 1st is also April Fool, and I would hope that you don't take the kind people on here for fools.

As for trouble, I think you already are in trouble if your rental contract comes to an end on Tuesday. Better get packing. If this is a hoax, please don't waste any more of our time.

For info, the hostel in Basel costs 40 CHF per night. The person to contact is Inge on +41 61 685 16 55.
