Camera lens repair?

I have quite a basic digital camera, a Canon Powershot SX130. Point and shoot style, but lots of manual functions too. I really like it.

Unfortunately there is a very small scratch on the lens, which is noticeable on photos only when the camera focuses to a certain distance.

Is it worth getting it repaired, or will this likely cost more than a new camera?

Re: Camera lens repair?

It will cost more as it's an integrated lens.

Re: Camera lens repair?

I think rob1 is correct. being a fix lens the repair shop will spend a lot of time taking apart the camera and and re-assembling it. Most of the cost is going to be related most likely to the work time not the part it self. This applies for most of the products today.
Probably it will be cheaper to buy the same camera or a newer model...

Re: Camera lens repair?

Can i hijack with a similar question ..

I have a Sony RX100 iv .. I have no idea how, but the lens looks like it's covered in finger prints, as does the view finder. I've tried a little glasses cloth but no good.. Is there a special stuff or something?

Yes, there is special lens cleaning fluid. Some people use rubbing alcohol but this is may damage the special coating on the lens.

You should be able to get the len cleaning fluid and the cleaning cloth/paper from a camera shop. Mediamarkt may also have it.

Thanks for the responses.

Is there some kind of stuff to use for a DIY scratch repair?

The scratch is tiny and, if I would have to buy a new camera anyway, I wouldn't be too concerned about the possibility of it going horribly wrong.

Nope. If it is some big a%#$ lens can you MAYBE buff it out, especially if its something like a fisheye where sharpness is not the number one concern. But a tiny scratch on a tiny built-in compact camera lens? No chance.
