Far too many!

Tom
Well, you could say that's only relative to the lack of spam fritters and / or mushy / wet pea kind of men.

Re: How many British are there?

I've had an Irish passport for the last 13 years. I didn't renew the UK one.

But on my Permit it is still marked as Britannique. Even when i have filled in the forms properly. And given them a copy of my passport.

Perhaps they just take the nationality from when you arrived? 1973 for me. With a UK passport. Coz that's what's in the system.

It hasn't caused any problems.

In one Swiss report I saw, the Swiss categorized residents as Swiss, naturalized Swiss, then various categories of foreigner. So if you gained dual after being here, I think they'd count you as Brit.
I believe you keep whatever nationality you registered with as your nationality for statistical analysis which is fine by me. If I ever decided to naturalise and get dual nationality I would always consider myself as a Brit first and Swiss second.

Re: How many British are there?

Did you know that there are British people in Geneva even in the homeless community?
Once I was in a tram stop and one of them was talking to me, and asked me for 20 cents. In a definitely British accent. I was so astonished that I gave him 2 franks.

I hate it when that happens.

*Guy mutters something in French. Obviously wants money*
"I don't speak French" (hahah, that will get rid of him)
"Oh, I speak English. Can I have money?"
"....eh? oh...Vad sager jag? err...ja.ja. Engelska? Jag kan pratar det inte."
"Svenska! Hej! Kan jag har penga?"
Damn overly educated homeless.

Re: How many British are there?

Trouble is, this is just permanent. I think most of us are here on short term visas.

The figures are supplied by the Swiss government, and would include short term registered people.

It says permanent residents by nationality.
This would include B permits?
Permanent resident to me sounds like a bit more than that.

No, only C.

"Anyone who works during his/her stay in Switzerland or who remains in Switzerland for longer than three months requires a permit. Residence permits are issued by the Cantonal Migration Offices. A distinction is made between short-term residence permits (less than 1 year), annual residence permits (limited) and permanent residence permits (unlimited)."
