There's a Swiss channel which is broadcasting this type of carrot reading sort of stuff or "medium" talk...you may call and they read some stuff for you, live.
Couldn't believe they had so many calls but your thread just confirms that yeah, some people are into this...ahem, esotericism.

Whatever floats your boat, OP. But someone approaching you in the street? I would be veery cautious...
Ah maybe i look at the swiss channel, i didnt connect well with the lady in zurich old town, dont get me wrong shes nice but just something didnt feel right, you HAVE to feel comfortable with your pychic,

Re: Is it genuine or a con

Some people get whatever positive kick out of looking at their growing bank accounts, just washed cars, some look at their growing plants, some stop for a few mins and watch their cakes rise in the oven (me), some soak up in their kid's smiles, some go to a sermon and connect with others, some feel strength (that others quickly shrug off since they are the bank accnts or weather watchers) from a one off spirtual event...some actively look for this positivness (be it a placebo or not) in tarrots, new age music, yoga gurus.

Who is more right? And why would anyone think they are more right or smarter because some other self support technique works for them? We all manage our own feeling of wellbeing. We engineer it. I did with a dress today, I always do. Others like the tlc coming (for a price, it is a business, often...not always here, I know that for a fact) from spiritual services. Why feel superior, however we invest in ourselves?

Ahh, we can always rely on MusicChick for a generically vague, somewhat confusing, and yet perfectly politically correct reply. Bless you for that.

Why do you need to make an appointment with a psychic in the UK? Surely they know you're coming...

They may, but you don't. If the customer knew when there was a free space without confirming the appointment then they would hardly be needing the services of a(nother) Clair(e)voyant, now, would they?

And they would know who the good psychics in CH are as well (for want of a referral).
Don't they all have palantirs to talk to each other anyway?

There used to be one who for years advertised in the classified section of the NZZ. IIRC the ad translated more or less as:

Quote:
Experienced spiritualist solves any and all life problems, no details or appointment necessary, Post Konto xx-xxxx-x
Very Swiss: succinct, unassuming, efficient.

Re: Is it genuine or a con

Ok, to the serious bit of the OPs request: No, it was not some magic chance encounter, these guys (I am sure it's more than one) have been around in Zurich forever. When I was really young and interviewed for my first job in Zurich in winter of 2001 did I on that day walk in a suit during the old town. At least three Indians came to me with "you are really lucky"... maybe their business is on the decline or I look less naive these days as I just get this sort of encounter about once a year now.

Ok to be serious also: I had the same kind of encounter near Bahnhof Enge. Told me I had a happy face, faced a positive future, blah blah blahdey blah. Then asked for money.

You just have to be aware of the universal truth that if something looks or sounds too good to be true... then it generally is.

But at Bahnhof Enge it might just have been a FIFA representative...

There is also an Indian fellow who makes the rounds in Regensdorf every year. No Turban, or fortune telling, but certainly very mystical. He is collecting money for an orphanage in rural India, or at least that is what he claims. His opening line is "You are very lucky."

He carries a book with an explanation in German and various photos, and he makes the rounds of the industrial area on foot, stopping in at a great many garages, body shops, and other small businesses. He is quite well known.

I know quite a few people who own businesses in that area, and they are all pretty straightforward practical guys, some financial successes, some struggling. You would be surprised at how many give him money.

More surprising is that when you ask them why they give him money, their response is generally a mixture of:
He is right, I am very lucky.
He is very honest and unassuming, compared to my customers and visiting sales people.
At least I know that the money doesn't disappear in "overhead", even if it is a swindle, I know the money isn't wasted.

(So much for the image of the hard hearted mechanic just waiting to rip the customer off.)

But that's the question, isn't it?

There are some really really weird people signing up on EF with multiple accounts simply to stir up the most senseless discussions apparently getting a kick out of people taking them serious.

THe OP is one of these cases where I am not sure if real or not.
