Well, there all of those studies that say that CH is bottom of the list when it comes to social life and making friends.

Also, the Swiss who comment on these threads who mention how hard it is for them to make friends, if theyve been living abroad for some time and later return... so it-s not just an expat thing
He's Swiss himself!! And he has never lived anywhere else.

I could kiiiind of understand if some non-Swiss would say that as I could see where they come from. I myself am highly critical of my fellow countrymen and -women, as can be read everywhere in this forum.

But this, sorry, it's nothing but an adolescent pity party of some dude who's very likely socially awkward in some way or another and blames his own shortcomings not only on "the Swiss" (which includes himself) but on "Swiss women" in particular and who thinks his life is essentially over at 22. Please.

And during those years I must have missed out on a lot of things that are crucial for younger beings, especially social interaction with people.
Cool, but what's your problem now, do you have social anxiety or something? If not, just socialize as much as possible at your workplace etc. It may take years but you can form something.

While I am all about loyalty and sincerity, getting all focused on keeping childhood friends may be counterproductive. People evolve. Keeping bonds that no longer suit for nostalgic reasons...buh.

I wouldn't go as far as saying "his shortcomings" in the sense that it's very possible that his past social interactions/bullying/people around him etc. formed him into what he is now. I wouldn't necessarily call it his fault.

However he should understand that ...SHOCK... there is life after high school/uni as those of us older than him found out.

It's up to him to sort it out...I'd suggest visiting a psychologist to make sense of it all. People should not be self-conscious about that. Get your psychological issues out of the way so you can enjoy life. It'll hurt like hell (much more than what he might be feeling now) but it'll be great!

OP thanks. I surprisingly agree with a lot of what you've said (although this chapter was long-reading, especially with determining unsaid between the lines).
But now need to go back to the grind, or I'm in trouble tomorrow. Might return then.

P.S. Please define "swiss guy" - I might ask you to define Swiss Girls, women etc. as well...

Not my experience.
Only problem I have had is the ladies often don't tell you they are married and you only find out when you have a large tractor throbbing in front of your door

I did, quite successfully.

One of my housemates back in the US did as well, though he only came here on business, as did another friend who came to visit. They both scored the first day.

Why does that sound eerie to me?

OP: women were not put on this earth for the benefit of you or any random foreign tourist who is up for a quick shag. They are people, like you, and they can smell desperation..... a mile off.
And it's the biggest turn off in the World!

Concentrate on making male friends first. No girl in her right mind wants a man who is completely dependent on her for company.

Went to a few clubs that played music I like and some concerts... Kept seeing the same faces...After the 5th or 6th time a few hellos were exchanged with people...slowly built up to short conversations re: music etc. ...then longer ones...got invited to a couple of parties and so on...this was within the space of a few months...

It was almost 20 years ago and the people I met like that became great friends.

In my experience music scenes (especially niche ones) are a surefire way of meeting people. But the same goes for any hobby or interest.
You took the words right out of my mouth.

I have one friend from childhood and the vast majority of the rest are from a shared music scene, going to gigs together, etc...

Fijiman has made some interesting contributions
Re: The truth about swiss girls and women

OP, what you are describing is not unique to Switzerland. But rather is heightened due to it being a small country, of which 1/4 of residents being non-citizen expats who often temporary residents, and many others are non-resident tourists. Locals are cautious if you aren't pre-approved by a common contact.

It is also a common difficulty of any young person (early 20's), who is "different" and perhaps not very experienced in interpreting social cues and context.

The secret to happiness in life is spend time with people whose company you enjoy, and spend your time doing what you enjoy. Start down that path, look at situations from the perspective(s) of the other person, and soon you too will have a social circle. Hang in there, it gets better.

tl;dr version: "I'm a virgin and it's everybody else's fault."
tl;dr "misogynistic twaddle."

I have a Swiss daughter-in-law. She's from a farming family in Schafhausen. Totally lovely. Her family, while from an entirely different background to us, also very pleasant people - sociable and fun to be with. Just a little bit crazy, but they probably think that about us.

The OP Needs to man-up, stop watching Internet porn, and take a good look in the mirror.

Only losers with too much sense of entitlement and not enough sense of direction whinge like this. Good men, the men women are attracted to:
  • Are kind but assertive,
  • take the risk of crashing and burning
  • dust themselves off and move on when they do
  • are not afraid to walk away if things aren't going well.
And if the OP has drawn a bad Hand: short, ugly, bald...he Needs to own it if he's going to get anywhere.

Re: The truth about swiss girls and women

I think, litespeed, it is a universal truth both for guys and chicks. Blaming situation on misfortune (culture, country, parents) is a sign of somebody not feeling exactly very..empowered. Intimidated, maybe.

It is cute on one hand, world is too full of self assured a-holes, but will not make OP too magnetic. No matter how people look, tbh, or what muscle talk or gestures they throw around.

Coming from another atmosphere, I think I see the OP's observational skills. What comes out as accusatory and mysogynistic to Westerners, can seem merely observational, analytical to us. Locals are similar in this. We don't put our emotions into looking at something from a distance. Westerners think - let's go and get'em. Up and at it. We say, let's pause for a min and look what situ I am in. It looks like wallowing in one's misfortune, but it may just be an attempt to understand...see what's behind. It is not a sad outcry.

I think some of the stuff OP put down was pretty accurate. It will take a while to realize that those are standards that OP doesn't even want. And that he in charge of deciding.
