can you tell me your opinion and/or experience?!Germany/Switzerland

Hello,

I have a question and I would like to hear your opinion and/or experience. I am working in Switzerland and my husband is considering to start to work in Germany (approx. 150km from our actual address in Switzerland). I think that it is a little to much to drive everyday, 300 km per day is a big distance. So we are think in change address to slit the distance in half way. However I don't know if is a good idea, 1st because we love to live in Switzerland, and 2nd because if we move to Germany I am afraid that we loose the B permit that we have, even if I still keep my job here in Switzerland. I am not sure if that is true, so I would like to hear from you.

Can anyone tell me how is like to cross the borders everyday? And regarding tax, we will pay here and also there? And what about driving in winter time, how bad that is??

Thanks so much for your help. And congratulation to the forum, it always help us a lot.

To give sensible answers, you need to tell us nationalities, town where you work and area where you plan to stay.

Maybe the city where your husband is going to work? It would help to determine an optimum commute time for both of you.

Administratively speaking, since you're both from an pre-2004 EU country, it just means de-register at the Gemeinde, register in your new D Gemeinde with proof of employment in D from your husband. You would be able to obtain dispensation from mandatory swiss health insurance by proving you're insured in D (cheaper!), see here.

You could live in Swiss Schaffhausen. Thus you could take the train to your work (Baden?). Your husband can drive. The German motorway starts about 15km from Schaffhausen.
