Also, access to wilderness areas where one can travel for days without seeing another soul.

Try shopping after 8pm or on Sunday!

From England - not that much really, just convenience of actually being able to go to the supermarket after work i guess.
As others have noted, hours seem to be quite varied. In ZH, things have improved a lot over recent years. 20:00 or 21:00 is standard for the bigger supermarkets, and there are the mini Coops, Migrolinos etc open 7 days till 23:00 for emergencies. Not as flexible as some other countries but I can live with that.

What I miss most is leaning on a bar with a decent pint of ale and a grab bag of Cheese & Onion -- and a range of old friends to share the time with. I have many acquaintances here in Switzerland but very few real good mates.

There can't be much wrong with Switzerland if most peoples' main concern is that supermarkets close an hour or two earlier than in other countries.

Yes, it is a shame that the replacements for shopping in some crappy supermarkets are not marketed better.

Toronto. Plain and simple.
My late wife missed Tronna so much that she moved to Montreal, then the Bahamas, then Zurich, and finally, Lugano.

Toasted outsiders from a Mothers Pride plain, white loaf. And square-sliced sausage, although I didn't eat it much, I know that I want it right now!

There are a few things I miss about Tronna, less and less each time I return. Loblaws no longer sells Onion Buns. :-(

I miss buying medicine cheap in bulk at Walmart. 12 CHF for a tiny box of baby aspirin is sad.

Being able to recreate without the endless rules, regulations, certificates, licenses and general restrictions which suck the fun and spontaneity out of a passion or hobby.
While cleaning out the family home we found our old '70s minifish (a tiny flat-hulled almost-boat, an integral part of many childhood adventures) in the garage. Cleaned it up, loaded it on top of the car, and took off for the Michigan shore for a spontaneous trip down memory lane.

Not a permit, license, or course certificate in sight. Just plopped it in the water and sailed away. As we cruised along, I realized just how much I loved messing about in boats, and how much I missed being able to do so here.

So I started looking into what it would take, but soon gave up. I couldn't even figure out where they keep the red tape...

My minifish in youth was a Klepper kayak, but I'm with ya 100% on everything else.

Re: What do you really miss the most?

On my first trip back to the UK and I'm homesick for Switzerland already

Travelling through Zurich and Brussels airports only served to highlight what a shithole Manchester airport is by comparison. It's an embarrassment. Massive queues again at the 'automatic' EU passport booths whilst the non EU channels sailed through the manual checks. Even got waved through passport control because two of the booths weren't working and waltzed through the manual check.

The trains on Northern Rail are truly filthy and slow as always.

But...I was stunned at the massive array of food choices in Tesco. Things I'd almost forgotten existed jumped off the shelves and into my trolley. I'm on strict instructions to stock up on the 30p packets of Ibuprofen to save us from paying 9 CHF in Zurich.

Also found the the mens trouser fashion in the UK is reverting to loose fit, so I'm stocking up on chinos and cargo pants in the sales for my OH with the big calf muscles who couldn't find a pair of chinos in Zurich that he could get up to his knees. Skinny fit looks damned silly on any man over 50 anyway.

Going for a proper curry tonight and 'drinks' at my mate's tomorrow for his birthday. Monday has been written off as a bad idea. And at some point this week, I'm taking my godson and his three brothers to the beach...a real beach with real sea.

I've really missed the banter. I'm a thoroughbred Northern lass. We talk more, we interact more, we party more and I believe we laugh more than Southerners. My 84yr old aunt parties more than the 20 somethings I knew down south! I just need to do some detective work and find out if our 60 something Swiss gardener is single and fancies being her toy boy...

Between us, me and OH have three homes that we both love... Wigan - Zurich - Athens...but don't ever make us live down South again with them shandy drinking *******

Oh...and I absolutely love that my mates' friend got to the semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent dressed as a Davros the Dalek and got buzzed off by all 4 judges A wonderfully awful, slow burning wind-up played to perfection, in similar fashion to the British public making Rage Against The Machine the Christmas No.1 a few years ago.

No, no no lady Rufus! I will psychically transfer the pain

We're starting with Aperol & prosecco vs Aperol & grapefruit, swiftly moving on to the array of Swiss spirits I've brought back, then back on the old faithfull vodka Red Bull which is half Swiss I guess. But if Jay brings his 9.6% homebrew ginger beer, I might need to write off Tuesday too.

Bought a bag of incredibly awesome cheez doodles in a gas station in Sweden this morning. Can also get high quality cheetos in the Netherlands. In this, Switzerland is way behind.
