Resolution 2009

greetings my fellow Ausländer!

ever made a resolution that you end up not keeping, year after year after year, because you're a lazy s***? got sick of making them altogether, andt you now find them tediously cliche and criminally vulgar? but secretly, you wished you could make one and keep it??

let's give it a whirl anyway!

this thread is for you to thow down the gauntlet, find like-minded resoluters/lazy-sods, seek support etc. you may even feel inspired to start your own thread to help you achieve your resolution.

if i may start the ball rolling, mine are: learn french, pick up fishing during fishing season and start a mini asian film club (if sucessful, i'll post on the events area next year).

ps: this thread has a status update in June 2009, when i'll remind resoluters to check in on their resolutions

Re: Resolution 2009

Resolutions for 2009, not necessarily by this order, are: learn German, get drivers license , find a job, lose some weight, go to the gym more often, hang my paintings on the wall, not to be so dependent on internet, and sort out the stockings drawers. Maybe, clean the windows and sort out the stockings drawers

Re: Resolution 2009

I tried all those "do less ..." resolutions right up til a coupla years ago. I always failed. Now I make all the same resolutions, just start them with "do more..." instead. Instant success!!

My goal is to stay fit, and I have been in the gym 4 times
per week for two months.

Re: Resolution 2009

Just remember, all you resolutions (goals) should be SMART, i.e:

Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Results oriented
Timed (ie have time scale attached)

On that note, my resolution is, as always, to be a better person!

Absolutely - if you are planning on getting fit, by running, for example, set yourself a goal of an organised 10K run.

I suppose the only measurable goal for learning German would be to take an exam and pass - unless someone has any other ideas?

My resolutions are almost always the same every year but thinking back, the only ones I have had success in are those where the target has been specific and measureable.

Mine are:

1. Run a marathon in under 4 hours.
2. Get my Swiss paragliding licence.
3. Learn German (how to measure this???).

Re: Resolution 2009

Hmmm

Well for me I want to visit my brother in New Zealand and my friends in Japan.
Ski every single weekend in the new year until close of season.
Get my drivers licence!!!

I think they are all pretty attainable.

i dun get it, do u guys not see the irony? "to be a better person" is neither S, M, R, or T! well, ok, u might have an A there

AjarnPat has hit the nail on the head though. and i was really thinking about achievable goals like, picking up an instrument, learning a language, trying out some extreme sport etc. and not so much the intangible...

well, getting the films is not a problem. it's getting the permission to screen them that's the problem. i wrote to 1 distributor last week, still no reply.

I think I only deserve your respect if I achieve any of these !!!

Actually, I've been paragliding for years. Unfortunately, my licence is not valid for Switzerland if I am a resident here. I need to get a local licence so I can get insurance and put some big licence numbers on my wing.
I need to take the theory exams so there's a fair bit of swotting to do - if I take them in German.

To answer your question, I'm not sure about the AG area but a school that teaches in the Hoch ybrig area is really good. The owner and instructor, George is a very decent chap and speaks excellent english.
His website has a links page that links to the SHV, the national association.

I resolve to be less cynical, a little more trusting and with any luck and will power, stop smoking. And learn to drive.

Absolutely only in 2009. I will take up full cynicism again in 2010.
