Re: What are you currently reading?

I'm trying to read "Night Train to Lisbon" by Pascal Mercier but for some reason I can't get past the first 10 pages, which I've read over & over...

I don't know if I'm just not in the mood/mind frame to read it, or if the book & I are just not compatible.

I have had "World without End" by Ken Follett sitting by my bed for months , It is a follow on from the wonderful "The Pillars of the Earth" and I have just started it so hopefully will finish it in the next few weeks - it is sooooooooo long.....
That is a fantastic book as good as Pillars of the Earth.

I'm reading The Ladies of Grace Adieu by Susanna Clarke at the moment, and shall start The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova by this weekend. Has anyone read it?

Started *The Historian* last spring but stopped as it scared me too much - what can I say I was pregnant having terrible dreams and I do most of my reading at night.. but it is good, rather gripping. Might give it a go again actually now that you've mentioned it and see if I can read it early evening instead of night Let me know what you think..

Finished 'The Elephanta Suite' by Paul Theroux -- quite good.
Borrowed 'The Gangster We Are All Looking For' (by Le Thi Diem Thuy) from the library, now part way through. About Vietnamese refugees resettled in the US.

I've just finished a new novel by Rose Tremain : The road home. An immigrant worker from Eastern Europe tries to adapt to a new way of life in contemporary London. Well observed and entertaining. Shows another version of life as an expat in all its complexity.

What are you reading at the moment?

I used to read a lot but since having my daughter I seemed to have lost touch with a good book. I was just wondering what are you reading at the moment?

I have been looking on Amazon in the hope of getting our bookshelf restocked but seemed to have lost touch on what is out there.

So come on guys, whats good? What have I missed over the last two years? Look forward to hearing from you.

Re: What are you reading at the moment?

Some of the books I enjoyed reading last year were:

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

I hope you find some time to have a read!

Thanks very much

Just looking at 'A Thousand Splended Suns' on Amazon as you sent that. Sounds interesting. It is in the top 100, so must be good.

It's a great book and the Book Thief was a real eye-opener. I've been reading books by Tom Bryce and I'm addicted now.

Re: What are you reading at the moment?

I just finished The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. It is written from the perspective of a murdered girl who watches her family from heaven. It's a strange book in the way it is written but it works & I found it hard to put down.
