I liked the 3rd picture most, it contained no power line poles or towers (sometimes it's hard to avoid those things, they're very annoying).

These are too over cooked for my taste.

HDR is a very seductive tool.
I liken it to the airbrush in the 1980's where if used properly and subtally the results were great, but on the other hand, people went bonkers with it as well and produced some real eye sores.
IMO, the key to it's success - like any good retouching - should be that no one realizes what you've done.

But also, wlcome to the forum - be boring if we all liked the same things

we had some pretty strong Southerly winds (Föhn) that kept the clouds rolling
in and right on out (of the picture).

How often were you taking pictures to get that effect? I have been toying with the idea of using time lapse for a while but I'm not sure how many photos I should set it to take over a certain period of time.

This one is close to 700 individual photos taken at a 12 second interval using
a 64x ND Filter and the shutter is open for 2.5 seconds each frame.

I have done Time-Lapse with my product: Precision Pano that start at 400
frames to longer ones that use over 5000 frames in one film clip.

With a DSLR...?! That's a fast way to wear out a good camera. How many frames per sec are you using..?

Yup. That's right! This one was with a dSLR, yes. I also have a compact
camera with full manual control that I use as well... to save the dSLR
mechanics. Actually, I am looking for other compact cameras that will hold
up to the abuse... the one I am using is marginal for the long-term Precison
Pano sweeps (due to the battery lifetime).

I have had two shutter systems replaced on two of four dSLR bodies I use
for this. Both of which wore out before the published lifetime - so the
replacement was done for free! Quality has it's price!

BTW, I notice a difference in quality when comparing dSLR to compact
camera frames for my Precision Pano clips.

The video clips are done with 24 fps.

you are surely correct about the right equipment for the job, although I have uses my G9 for things like that but never to the tune of 700 pics. I will try to post a link to my Picassa site as I have far to many nlarge photos from CH.

700 frames is a light-weight video clip. Somewhere around 29 seconds
long @ 24 fps. Like I said, have made a few at 5000 frames. Check out
the Precision Pano website. There are only a hand full of these type tools
on this planet of ours... Precision Pano is the most flexible, lightweight and
easy to set-up and use.

Sure that eats up a dSLR. The bodies I use are capable of 150,000 to
300,000 shutter releases... so I can produce a number of 5,000 frame
video clips before the camera goes in for repair (at my cost)
