| | | How to keep warm in the cold
O.K. I just had to share
I went to Migros and found body warmers
(french) Coussinet thermique
(german) Warmebeutel
(italian) Sacchetto termico
Basically, they are little adhesive pouches, that stick to your clothes (not skin) and produce heat. All for the price of 1.80 francs
They can be used up to 20 hours and apparently it can obtain up to 50 degress celcius (spelling?)
I love them, they really made my day | | This user would like to thank bluefish for this useful post:

Good stuff.
I bought the smaller packets at CHF 1.- each. Use them (one in each glove,
fits perfect in my palm) when shooting football matches during the cold
weather months. Tried it once (a total investment of 2 Franks). Loved
them! Went back and bought 10 more for the next five games.

They come with a warning not to use against bare skin; the foot warmers go between boot and sock, the hand warmers between glove or mitten and the thin liner gloves most of us wear under the main glove or mitten.
With temperatures often around 0F (-17C) or lower, they are a Godsend. I buy them by the box of 50 (pairs!).

I called them body warmers because I didnt know what they were called in English. They were actually invented in Japan, where I first used them and never saw them since. | Quote: | | | | | I obviously know nothing about the Swiss product, but winter hikers in the cold parts of North America use similar products, marketed as "hand warmers" or "foot warmers". Here in the valley the temperature is now (9 AM) 0F, with winds averaging 24 mph with gusts to 30 mph (-17.7C, average 38.6, gusts 48.3 kph).
Staying at home today and making glühwein this evening

One body wrapped around another body keeps quite warm too. | | | | | This is probably the best take-on for cold days, but it makes it more difficult to apply for outdoor activities |

But when the weather is as miserable as it is today in Northeaster America, staying at home and using Sada's approach (perhaps adding some glühwein for another kind of warmth ) is an attractive option
Why do I feel that this thread is being hijacked |

Actually Glühwein or some other stuff is good too. Spreads out from the middle of your body, but then I heard alcohol afterwards produces some cold effects in the body so ... nothing is hijacked here, all in the line of how to keep warm in the cold | Quote: | | | | | Granted, Sada's solution does not work too well outdoors. In cold days in SA which btw are quite scarce, I used to make in winter a tea with Stroh rum containing 80% alcohol. It worked well and here I would also advice a bit of spirit. In healthy body unhealthy (80%) spirit some might claim but it had worked miracle
Truly Sada claims that most of the heat is lost in legs. Warm socks and boots but don't forget to cover your head. Warm jacket and a better half wrapped around you makes your body temp maintained in a peak level | | This user would like to thank jacek for this useful post:
