Noise pollution from sports facility

I read this a few days ago on the 20Min website (link in German):
<http://www.20min.ch/news/schweiz/story/20529892>

Basically 3 families have complained or rather went to court about the noise from a sports facility. The court has partly agreed with them and stated that the sports facility cannot be open on Sundays and public holidays anymore. The town council is fighting the verdict and has taken the case to the federal court now.

Today they were talking about this on the radio and people could give their opinion about noise, the drive home was short, thus I did not hear many comments:
  • one guy called the radio station saying that he lives just 7 meter next to the footy stadium and he cannot sit in his garden in summer until about 20:30 h as it is way to loud and he said that it is not acceptable
  • an other woman called saying that people should not be be allowed to practice their instrument at any place (only in the cellar) as it is very disturbing for others
I can understand in a sense the fact that people do not like noise. We had neighbour-couple, that would be very, very loud in bed and that at like 02:00 h or 03:00 h in the morning. Then we had an other neighbour-couple and she would GO OFF at her boyfriend every weekend (the poor guy), every Friday when they came home it would start, shouting, screaming, banging doors and would usually last until Sunday evening (was quite relaxing when they went on a holiday as we had a holiday from the shouting and screaming too ).
But even though we had neighbours like that I am not sure whether it is the right approach to take everything away from the youth or people to enjoy their free time (sports, playing an instrument etc).

What do you think?

What do your neighbours fight about? :-) I find that more interesting. Nothing wrong with sex at 3am :-)

Was the sports facility already there when the 3 families moved in? If yes then they should stuff it and buy an ipod.

Luckily we moved ... I don't know what they were fighting about. I think she just had a go at him for anything he could possibly do wrong.

Nope, I have nothing against it or the time either ... but I would prefer not be woken up by very loud groaning and other very loud vocal utterances, quite a few neighbours used wake up too (but again luckily we moved).

Ah, the cotton wool culture. No noise? Don't live in the city then. Don't want noise from a football stadium? Did you miss it on the way to your house? Like the cheap rent?

What can you say? You live in a built-up area - you have to expect some noise.
