Re: Tallest Building in Switzerland

It would look great in a real city, with skyscrapers all over, but here it would look out of place. I love the design, but I just don't think it would fit into the Basel landscape very well.

It will double the number of skyscrapers already in Basel

I was upset when they built the Messeturm; we had a great view of St Chrischona out of our back window before that. On the upside, my wife works on the 29th floor - one below the Bar Rouge toilets. You get a great view of the surroundings from up there. I like the concept of the unfrosted windows in the Bar Rouge toilets too - saves taking Viz Comic with you.

Cheers,
Nick

Re: Tallest Building in Switzerland

It looks sexual. Reminds me of another swiss project. The gherkin.

However it might look pretty good right behind the old buildings. It would be special and unique in it's way.

Re: Tallest Building in Switzerland

I like it, if it turns out looking like that it would look great. Basel can accommodate new buildings that would look spectacular on the river.

Re: Tallest Building in Switzerland

I am torn between this one. It IS an impressive building, but I am not sure it really fits into the rest of the city.

Still...I guess we won't be needing our sunglasses during the sunsets at Birsköpfli park anymore, and the shade cast from the thing will keep the river 0.3°C cooler for those hot August days!

Let's see if we can get them to open some sort of roof top lounge on the top... or offer Matterhorn viewing tours!!

Re: Tallest Building in Switzerland

I don't like it as the design does not look very thought out. The form is too messy. Is it the best the architects could come out with? You could stick a big turd upside down and it would look better

Mind you it's not as bad as this kitsch building-

Just another Herzog & Demeuron "experiment".

Re: Tallest Building in Switzerland

is it earthquake-proof?
and
what a bad use of interior space to be "different". Will there be a helter-skelter for a fire escape?

Re: Tallest Building in Switzerland

I was driving across the German border today on the Autobahn, and I realized what they were trying to emulate with the sculpture. A smokestack with twists on the top....that does make sense.
